The Boss last edited by ghostgrifter on 07/21/21 01:39PM View full history

The new era for Marvel's always-evolving, always controversial team kicks off here! It's a beginning, a return, a departure, and an arrival of a new artist (MARVEL ZOMBIES 3 & 4's Kev Walker) all rolled into one in a fresh, shocking status quo! The most dangerous people on Earth are now all in one hellish prison, and the only way out is through rehabilitation and contribution to society via The Thunderbolts...under the leadership of the steel-hard-skinned Avenger named Luke Cage! So bring on the first participants: Juggernaut! Crossbones! Ghost! Moonstone! And...Man-Thing? Against the sordid recent history of the group as a black ops kill squad, can Power Man restore the Thunderbolts to their rightful potential? Find out as the entire series is revamped, and also discover why ComicsBulletin.com says: "Jeff Parker writes villains with his typical panache... This is why I read comic books."

Luke Cage, the new head of the Thunderbolts program, arrives at The Raft and gets verbal confirmation from Ghost and Moonstone of their participation. Cage next meets with Juggernaut and tells him he didn’t want him on the team, but someone put in a good word for him, who happened to be Professor Xavier (unbeknownst to Juggernaut). Crossbones is next, who was put on the team to promote Cage’s effectiveness by alienating everyone else. Cage meets with Mach V and he takes Cage to their “transportation”: Man-Thing. Hank Pym explains that Man-Thing has a special relationship with a time/space connection and that an implant Pym developed will allow them to use Man-Thing to teleport to their desired locations. The team leaves the facility to perform maneuvers and while Cage lectures the group, he gets knocked out with a blast from out of the blue – from Baron Zemo?

    Review: Thunderbolts #144 0

Luke Cage rounds up a new team of Thunderbolts from the Raft, including Juggernaut, Ghost, Moonstone, Crossbones and Man-Thing.  The Good I'm a sucker for supervillain stories and Parker makes does a good turn in the sub-genre, here. "Rounding up the team" stories are sometimes of a necessary evil, but he makes this really engaging. I especially enjoyed the little moments like Ghost only communicati...

    Nice starting point 0

Scans and summary can be seen hereThe Good While I can’t say the art by Kev Walker is my favorite, he does strive to give each individual character a unique look and “interpretation”. Even if there was no color all the important characters of the team have specific dimensions and mannerisms in just this one issue that I must tip my hat to Walker. The story was all set up, but I found myself liking the various ties that the series has in terms of throwback members such as Moonstone, Songb...

    Another great one. 0

Heading into this issue, I had three doubts: Moonstone, Crossbones, and Man-Thing. They explained Man-Thing and Crossbones admirably, but we never got an explanation why Moonstone, who was the number 2 person behind Osborne on both the post-Civil War, barely good guys Thunderbolts team, and his field leader in the Dark Avengers, gets yet ANOTHER chance to screw everybody over she can. That's the one hole in this story. As for everything else, I'm on-board. Songbird, Mach V and Fixer as the backu...
