I don't believe it will be, definitely not in the way Wally West changed race. A few months top, and he'll be male again.
Thor
Character » Thor appears in 8592 issues.
Thor Odinson is the All-father of Asgard /God of Thunder, offspring of All-Father Odin & Elder-Goddess Gaea. Combining the powers of both realms makes him an elder-god hybrid and a being of no perceivable limits. Armed with his enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir which helps him to channel his godly energies. Will female Thor really be permament?
If ANYONE actually believes that changes like these are permanent and gets mad about it, they haven't been reading comics for very long. People need to look a these things more positively. In the worst case scenario if the new Thor is horrible it's going to last around 6 months before the original Thor comes be back and everyone is going to forget about it by this time next year, on the other hand if the series/character is great you are going to get the old Thor back and maybe a permament addition to the Thor mythology like it happens with great characters.
@dredeuced: Or thunderstrike,
Remeber thunderstrike...? Anyone...?
@saintofkillers: But I don't see the point? Thor is now more popular then ever because of the MCU. Why change him now? He wasn't very popular in the Thunderstrike era.
@frozen: Well, unless we work at marvel we can never really be sure of the reason behind this direction. Maybe the writer pitched the idea to marvel and they thought it was great. Maybe it was marvel saying "we need more strong females characters" and the Thor titles could use some. Maybe the thought -and this is a really cynical way of looking at things- "Hey Thor is a really popular character right now, but you now what makes popular characters even more popular? when you take them out of the spotlight for a while and then make a big deal about their return *cough*superior spiderman*cough*. Maybe the most reasonable answer is that it's not just one reason but a combination the things I mentioned.
A change this huge should be permanent, only because when you disgrace a character so badly that his father gives his title to someone else, that's a big freaking deal (story wise). It's a monumental change that shouldn't be taken lightly. Civilizations have fallen over less. But no, it won't be permanent. Though I wouldn't be surprised if we have two Thors running around by the end of this.
Nope. With all the whiners on this site who are crucifying this before even seeing a panel I'm surprised Marvel hasn't already backpedaled on this. That being said even if it's loved chances are Thor will be back in the role sooner or later with Fem-Thor becoming a character like Beta-Ray Bill where they make her a new hero.
Don't be stupid of course not she will probs be around for the same amount of time as bucky cap or less then be killed or or demoted to generic side character in the thors storys or just retconed out of existence i doubt she will be like x-23, she hulk or super girl and co exist with her male counterpart
