I, for one, love the change in Loki's costume for the film. He now looks like he poses a threat not like his comic counterpart who looks somewhat like a medieval jester to me.
Odin isn't too bad, I am neither impressed or disappointed, simply satisfied.
    And Thor looks spot on.

That's what I was thinking! :D I can understand the goofy look in the comics because he's the "god of Mischief", but I think this new look gives him more of a Doctor Doom type edge, with the gold armor and green cape, makes him look more like a serious villain.

I'm surprised at the positive reviews of the suits.  I figured people would be satisfied with Thor and Odin (gold eye patch?)  but Loki looks lame.  He needs the horns to represent the devil he is more then Thor needs a helmet for the sake of ............just because Thor wears a helmet.

Yep.. I'm with you... they are going to be in Asgard in the movie.. which is based all on Norse mythology... so I was thinking that it would be close to traditional viking look.. I mean look at Volstagg and the warriors three.. in the books they all have traditional Norse clothing

You also must remember that theiy're trying to play this off more as a superhero movie as well, like Iron Man, so normal viking clothing may not really appeal to the general audience as 'Superheroish."

I really like it for 2 reasons.
    1. They're supposed to be in a mythical world, so I'm happy it's just viking-inspired. It makes it look like they are magically/technologically superior to us--like how gods should be.
    2. Before this pic came out, the movie makers said that it would be really difficult fitting Thor into the real world of technology set up by Iron man. That's why the Iron man director didn't want to be in charge of the Avengers. This makes it clear that they're probably going with  the Magic is Science You Don't Understand approach that the producers were talking about. And I think they're doing a good job of setting up that feel, if that's what they're going for.

Thats not norse, hell its not even from the dark ages. Also the 13th warrior was ridiculed by dark age historians for its depiction of norse armor.  We are talking 8th century here, there was no plate.  You had splint and chainmail, if you could afford it.  If not then it was padded.

THIS is a norse or saxon warrior, to be precise a Huscarl:

For a superhero movie, i like the armor and they fit the marvel norse gods better, the actual norse gods have dark sides.  Thor actually was more a mix of ares, hercules and thor than just thor.....

I actually like the look, might be a little to flashy but that's okay. They hold the look as if the Norse gods updated their look through the ages. Or if they were envisioned by modern man, but still wore suits of armor instead of Kevlar and wielded axes, swords, and staffs over M-4, AK, or MP5.
