What can the axe do & what qualities does it possess? BTW what's the name of it? Does he use it in the present?
Thor
Character » Thor appears in 8593 issues.
Thor Odinson is the All-father of Asgard /God of Thunder, offspring of All-Father Odin & Elder-Goddess Gaea. Combining the powers of both realms makes him an elder-god hybrid and a being of no perceivable limits. Armed with his enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir which helps him to channel his godly energies. The mightiest and the most beloved warrior in all of Asgard, a staunch ally for good and one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse/omniverse. Thor is also a founding member of the Avengers.
Thor's new weapon
It's called "Jarnbjorn" and after reading Uncanny Avengers #6, it apparently is dense enough to cut through Celestial Technology/Armor. It is Young Thor's main weapon in both God of Thunder and this current arc in Uncanny Avengers, though apparently in the Present Day it ends up being lodged into Baron Mordo's chest somehow.
Would be cool if Thor carried that, and Mjolnir around..
Probably will sometime in the future. He was advertised as carrying more than 1 weapon in Marvel NOW! advertisements.

On the two swords? That would be fricken awesome if Thor sent his electric current through the swords !

Thor was advertised as having swords but Jarnbjorn is an axe & Mjolnir is the hammer. BTW I think Mjolnir is the 1 capable of summoning lightning.
It would be nifty to see him use multiple weaponry.
It would indeed.
Is Thor: God of Thunder and Uncanny Avengers the initial appearance of Jarnbjorn or is it something that has been shown before? I don't believe I had ever seen a story of him with it before.
Thor: God Of Thunder is the 1st time it appeared.
@namor1987: No, thor summons the lightning himself as shown in Thor: GoT issue 2.
@namor1987: Thor's lightning manipulation does not come from Mjolnir. It's his own power.

I always thought he had to use Mjolnir to summon the lightning. So why the heck does he need Mjolnir for summoning lightning? To help direct it towards it's intended target & amplify its power?
To me Mjolnir is a biga$$ lightning rod.

it was a weapon given to him by Odin for his good deeds in Asgard. It helps Thor redirect, and amplify his power. It also allows Thor to manipulate matter, absorb, amplify attacks, fly, and more. Mjolnir does not give Thor weather manipulation.

No problem.
@thorson: really? How come?
I don't like its name. "Jarnbjorn" sounds a little too french (no offense to anyone)
@namor1987: Yeah he did >;D
@haveatthee: Yep. @cmartin: Thor's weapons are just tools at his disposal. Not using them would be stupid.

I highly prefer the hammer. its original and its classic. it doesn't need to be changed.
