Do you think it can reach the billion mark? Or near it imo?

Thor: Ragnarok Gross?
I doubt it , outside of Iron Man 3 , not many MCU movies can break even the 800 million barrier , my expectation is 650-740 mill
@birdman400: You're referring to individual/solo films right?

yes MCU movies like Thor have a bad rep already for being kinda bad , as soon as rating come out for the movie (usually within the first week) , people lose interest in watching the movie , like Thor:TDW
@birdman400: So sad that a simple review can turn people off. More so, I actually enjoyed the Thor films, albeit they weren't good, but they weren't god awful.
@birdman400: the film was a commercial success. People see movies regardless of reviews
I'll see it for freaking sure. Haven't seen Ant-Man yet, or FF, or an X-Men movie. I have GotG on DVD but never saw it in theaters, really really regret that.
But I saw AoU in theaters, as well as Cap: TWS and Thor: TDW and Iron Man 3. I saw the last 2 Nolan Batman movies in theaters, and also MoS.
I will be seeing Suicide Squad and BvS and Civil War too.

What rating Rotten Tomatoes? None of the Thor movies is Rotten like for ex. (MoS), Thor movies made more money than Cap movies...

it can make money but fans feel it was a bad movie , (like 75% of the this site dislikes the movie)

The first one. The Cap sequel edged it out though.

This is true too. There's been movies that were flops despite being critically acclaimed by critics and vice versa.
Again Thor movies 1+2 made more money than Cap movies 1+2... And Thor movies didn't have negative reviews but comicvine users can claim whatever they want will not change anything...

Okay combined. I thought you were referring individually. In which case yes.
Thor 1 was more successful than Cap 1 but everyone keeps forgetting that because Cap 2 was awesome, yes Thor 2 was very disappointing but not a failure and it's Box office demonstrated that if awesome like Cap 2 could make more than $800M worldwide...
The Ragnarok quality will determine the box office success, to soon for forecasts we don't even know who will direct the film and who is the Antagonist, although this movie has a bad release date it's not in the summer and 1 week or 2 after WB will release the Justice League movie at least is planned this way...
@asgaard: The only part about the timing of the release date that I agree with is the Justice League being hot on it's trail. Thor TDW was released in November, which is not a summer month and is pretty close to the holiday season.
And yeah. But who knows. Anything can cause the movie to not be released on it's original date. IIRC, Thor 3 was suppose to be released earlier or..?
There is no proof that the holiday season is a great timing for superhero movies, what other comic book movie can we compare with Thor 2 performance? Yes Skyfall was a tremendous success in that timing but is another genre, Thor 3 was suppose to be released in the Mcu Spider-Man release date (July 28, 2017), but i was speaking of the Justice League movie release date, even if the fans think that nothing can go wrong with the Dccu we have to wait and see, make good movies is not so easy like some fans think and WB in the last years has a lot of failures, but obviously i m not saying that the Dccu will fail...
@asgaard: It's a huge trial and error the DCCU/DCEU whatever you want to call it.
I talked about the holiday season b/c during that time the blockbusters or hyped movies are released around that time too. I also just wasn't referring to superhero movies. When Thor TDW was released, Catching Fire was released 2 weeks after as well and yet they both were successful.
Well as it is going to compete with the Justice League film I'd imagine Marvel will want to beat that so they will probably put a lot of effort into the marketing for it and hopefully the quality of the film. I think it will make at least $700milllion maybe up to $900million I'm not sure if it can break a billion but I'd expect Marvel to want to beat DC at the box office.
4 dollars.
You really hate THOR....

Lol, I'm JKing. Was the first number that came to mind.
... Anyways, I'd say maybe in the 400 mill. mark.
Will most likely pass on it since they are not going with the idea Thor is a god. just makes little to no sense. What will happen just blows the mind in why care what so ever. Who will be the villain some robot from lost in space.
I mean just where are they going with this mess. please do not say Jane gets cancer and picks up the hammer because she is worthy....no I think it just makes you want to scratch you head trying to figure it out.
4 dollars.

@cgoodness: wow...
@cgoodness: wow...
yeah, hopefully that IS just a joke. A quick check of the GDP of South Africa alone should prove that notion wrong.
I'm just hoping it's an enjoyable film. All the talk about financial success doesn't concern me. I'm sure whether it makes $500 million or $750 million, it'll be a profitable film.
700 - 900 million in profit.
I can see it beating Spider man's box office, but it will not make much higher than that if it does.
Just got back from seeing Thor: Ragnarok at the cinema. Much better film than Spider-Man Homecoming, hope it grosses more than Spider-Man. My immediate overall impression is that Thor: Ragnarok is a great visual spectacular with some great moments but IMO, spoiled by the over abundance of jokes. It felt like a sitcom at times and really took your attention away from the seriousness of what the Ragnarok prophecy is all about. Korg the rock monster overdubbed with the Director's New Zealand accent was this film's Jar Jar Binks. I don't know but this is another Marvel film that has way too much humor in it.
@magnetic_eye: Looks like "Ragnarok" is merely an affectation rather than a title with meaning. They definitely made it into an action/comedy from the majority of the reviews I read (spoiler-free).

Yes absolutely. I like the way this reviewer from Empire described the film:
Marvel has delivered something that isn’t an action movie leavened with humour, but a full-bore comedy using blockbuster spectacle as a backdrop for gags.
