Did she die her hair or something because none of thors parents are red heads or did odin confiscate her from another family aswel lol
Thor
Character » Thor appears in 8599 issues.
Thor Odinson is the All-father of Asgard /God of Thunder, offspring of All-Father Odin & Elder-Goddess Gaea. Combining the powers of both realms makes him an elder-god hybrid and a being of no perceivable limits. Armed with his enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir which helps him to channel his godly energies. The mightiest and the most beloved warrior in all of Asgard, a staunch ally for good and one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse/omniverse. Thor is also a founding member of the Avengers.
Thor Now Has a Sister
Reeks of a lazy retcon to shoehorn in a new origin story for her. Felt that way when I was reading it. Would've preferred Thor's sister to have been a new character altogether.
3 words come to mind: crowbar, lazy and rough.
There's really nothing else they could do except shoehorn her into continuity. DC had (and still has) the same problems with the Fawcett (Shazam Family), Charlton (Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, etc.), Milestone (Static, Hardware, etc.) and Archie (Shield, Web, Inferno, Hangman, etc.) characters that they tried to meld into the DC Universe.
When you pull a character from mythology (Thor, Zeus) or public domain (the characters from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or Terra Obscura) you have every bit of leeway you need to bend the mythology or public domain stories around your universe. When the character comes from another comic company (like Angela) they don't come with their original history, or the original history just doesn't work with the new company. So something else has to be done. Thus, shoehorning the character in through some retcon.
The only other thing they could have done is just had her appear suddenly in the Marvel Universe, and go from there. It's only logical that other characters would eventually want an explanation of where she came from (as we typically want to know of anyone new we meet) and then that could get sticky, as far as the storytelling goes. They could make her not remember, or gloss over the Image history with generalizations, but why? They're trying to mold her into the Marvel Universe, not mold the Marvel Universe around her Image history. And Neil Gaiman probably wants to disregard the Image history anyway, just to thumb his nose further to McFarlane.
Unfortunately, commercial concerns come into the storytelling with DC and Marvel. So when they acquire a character from another company, they have to start somewhere.
@ostyo: It's very...soap opera-y. Sudden revelations that make random characters related to other random characters in shocking reveals that in no way change anything meaningfully, that kind of thing.
@cbishop: my problem is: why not attach her to ghost rider. she'd fit beautifully as an instrument of god. you know heaven and hell. heaven is represented rather poorly in marvel. ghost rider gets a push, no forced retcon, angel actually fits in, everybody wins.
@glarinetta: @comicbookcoby: But a key difference here is that Angela is supposed to be Thor's older, full-blooded sister, meaning she should be rightful heir of Asgard.
Honestly, I was more taken aback when I was younger and I found out Thor had a lot more brothers than just Loki. So with that revelation, this doesn't bother me much. Yet another sibling, okay, whatever. Angela being shoehorned into that role, though, is a little 'ungh...', but if she truly does end up being a longstanding Marvel character, then the Spawn stuff will just be a fun trivia question and not much else.Similar to why Hyperion was originally made. Now, it's not that big of a deal.
The Tenth realm thing is a little more 'eek!'-worthy.
@son_of_simba: Bor had red hair so it can still work
@hecktate: full blooded no man thor's mom is still gaea freyja is his step mom so it's half blood. @son_of_simba: Bor had red hair so it can still work

@cbishop: Yeah, I knew it was inevitable when she appeared in GotG. I'll get over it eventually and just enjoy her character, it's just a temporary gripe for me.
I think it just has to do with Marvel not really thinking about how their various mythologies could mesh yet. I mean we have Norse mythology with Thor, a pseudo-ange/demon thing going on with Ghost Rider, and Egyptian mythology with Moon Knight (although that last one's reallymuddled). I think all it boiled down to is Angela looks like a Marvel Valkyrie (the group, not the wielder of Dragonfang), so connecting her to Thor seemed right.
Connecting her directly to Thor just kind of had to happen to really make her part of that family of characters. It's the difference in Kathy Kane being married to Batman in one continuity, but in another continuity just being some chick who made her own Batsuit to patrol Gotham in. If Angela is Thor's sister, there's just no denying her as part of the Thor dynamic. If she had been just introduced as a Valkyrie (which I've always thought she looked like) then pft, whatever, there's anywhere from nine to an army of those- she could just fade off into the background without losing too much sleep over her. They needed to show that she could be major at Marvel, not just part of some pre-existing group that nobody cares about. Valkyries are cool, but Marvel really only focuses on one- two if you count Dani Moonstar. And angels are so ill defined at Marvel, putting her there would have just been a clusterhump.
Loved the whole twist and how there is actually a 10th realm of angels. I think it brings something new and exciting to the whole lore that surrounds Thor only making it more interesting and giving the writers more to work with. I love this whole idea and really enjoyed the issue.
In total agreement, as a long-time Thor fan- love your avatar by the way! Angela & the Tenth Realm can only add to the mythos & the creators have been doing great with Thor & Loki thus far. I would love to see Thor & Angela be involved in some space-opera goodness, maybe fighting Surtur & the demons from Muspelheim trying to invade the MU- that would be pretty cool to see I think.
She should never be in the marvel Universe...period. But this is one of the best ways to add her to the mix that would make any sense.
Wait, does this make Spawn a Marvel hero now?
"Tenth realm"? Remember a few months ago when I said they could call this "Retcons: the series" and everyone asked me if I meant it in a bad way, and I said "no"? Well, now I do mean it in a bad way.
*finger snap* I just realized who's costume she's ripping off! Red Sonja!
Nope. This has nothing to do with the rest of the Spawn universe. It's just Angela, because Neil Gaiman had the rights for the character after he created her in the pages of Spawn. After years of legal confontations with McFarlane, Gaiman finally got the 100% of the character's rights for himself and then decided to bring her to the Marvel Universe. So yeah just her.
Thank you for clarifying.
@ostyo: I really don't know enough about her to know how to incorporate her.

Thank you! Glad to share an opinion with a fellow Thor fan. The possibilities are endless right now with this new direction and with Jason Aaron handling it I have no doubt it will deliver.
since the series was announced it was known that angela was going to be thor's sister so not big news to me. love all these characters so works great for me, prefer gods anyways. also explains the difference in powers from image to marvel. wonder if they will add any new powers to her once this series is over? give her a weapon that lets her manipulate energy in some way like thor controls the weather
norse mythology radicals are going to be pissed...

I'm always glad to chat with another Thor fan! You're right, Jason Aaron has really explored everything that is awesome about Thor & his mythos, & is expanding it as well, & as you said the possibilities are endless. There are so many stories that can be explored across the realms- & the realms that are seldom explored & ones we are just learning about- not to mention that Aaron has opened the door for more possibilities from the past, present & future, a concept I have always liked since Thor: God of Thunder's inception, & which definitely works for an immortal like Thor, who will exist in some form in all three points in time. I daresay this is one of the best Thor runs since Simonson. There's gonna be a lot of awesome stuff coming down the pike, I feel. It's a good time to be a Thor fan. :)
When Gaiman decide to take Angela out of the MU, they will have to do another retcon to explain this retcon.

This 100%
@danhimself: Essentially she was a Hellspawn killer. I'd say more, but trying to explain ANYTHING about Spawn is a headache. I only read the first couple of arcs before I dropped it because it got so damned confusing!!! People say comics are confusing and hard to get into for new readers........ Trust me Marvel on its off days and DC as it was in the pre-New 52? Yeah they don't hold a CANDLE to the levels of confusion, retcons, semi/sorta reboots, and baffling leaps in logic that Spawn is.
I KINDA wish Marvel had somehow managed to get the rights to Medieval Spawn(Yeah that exists and was created by Niel Gaiman) so we could have a Spawn that at least made sense.
Disagree dude, Spawn is only confusing you because you never read it through. They have in issue 200 reveal secrets from Issue 1 and on! There is always something being touched on, or coming back too in Spawn. Its not confusing but brilliantly done as many writers as it has been through. The reason you had a hard time with it is because its not made for 8-12 year olds with little attention Span and just want to know everything in the first arc.
As for this twist for Angela, this ****ing sucks! She is a Angel, how do Angels translate to Asgardians!? Give Christians something to like. You think they really worship Norse Mythology as a real religion. nothing can happen without Odin in the Marvel Universe.
oh well.

The 8-12 year olds with little attention spans too harsh? Thats the targeted demographic for marvel and DC yes? Not adults, that Image, Dark Horse, Dynamite, and IDW territory.

Okay, I read Image for The Walking Dead and Savage Dragon, Dark Horse(The Goon and Hellboy mostly), Dynamite(ARMY OF DARKNESS FTW!! Also where else am I gonna get my Pulp heroes and my Red Sonja?), and seriously IDW? Dude I am a MAJOR TMNT fan, as well as a Whovian so I have read their Doctor Who stuff. IDW is awesome!!! They had freaking Mars Attacks Popeye for crying outloud!! And their MLP: FIM comics are great!!! Yeah I'm a fan of FIM, sue me.
Spawn is a confusing heap of a comic series. It wasn't in the beginning. There was POTENTIAL there for something great, but it lost all that a LONG time ago. I'm not making it up, need proof? Go watch Geekvolution's Spawn year which reviews EVERY Spawn issue that has been published. It has reminded me exactly WHY I dropped Spawn.
Okay, you like Spawn. That's your right as a person. But saying Spawn is GOOD is also your opinion and not a fact. I DON'T like Spawn. I take that back, I like the initial IDEA of Spawn, I like his look, his powers are cool, but Spawn himself? Hell no I don't.

Fair enough, however I have most of the issues and the newer one tap deeper in to the unsolved material of the past and the Armageddon arc wrapped up nicely past loose ends as well. It was a great series that kept adding more but not revealing the hows or why till much later if at all leaving lots to the Imagination. it is great series for me and my friends.
To say as your initial opinion its confusing garbage is what I had issue with.
@gojira2014: To be fair, I haven't read the newer Spawn stuff, last I heard they replaced Al Simmons, so I can't judge that. I CAN judge the old stuff though and yes it was confusing, full of retcons, and at worst downright nonsensical and not nonsensical in a good way.

yes...we don't insult other users on the Vine...and we both know that the targeted demographic at Marvel and DC is not 8-12 year olds

What is it then? I never see 15+ reading them at the store. Your opinion =/= mine. Just as his opinion on Spawn does not equal mine. Just my stance and no way a insult as that is my observations. Last time I checked the insult dictionary saying someone is a possible 8-12 year old (very possible since my 7 year old son goes online to game sites) is not a insult.
Anyway I never intended to insult, and not ashamed of my wording in my observations.
When I first heard I kind of thought oh there making her his sister...so Odin messed around than....but than after reading this I kind of like it and its nice to see Odin is not a dog. I am interested in this and hope for the best. Also at this point I will just be happy if they USE ANGELA at ALL!! She has been severely underused in guardians of the Galaxy.
