Hey Thor fans. I want to start getting into Thor and marvel as a whole so I am in need of help on where to start with Thor? Any essential reading or very good/important stories or trades I should pick up?

Also I have the first few issues of the mighty Thor by Matt fraction and I was wondering if it was worth picking up the rest of that series and if it is canon with the marvel now Thor series. Thanks for all the help!

You could start off with Thor: God of Thunder by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic. It's his current ongoing right now and is probably one of the best books Marvel is putting out right now. It's at issue 20 btw.

Matt Fractions run on Thor was meh. His best work are the one shots he did. They are collcted in a ohc/tpb called "Ages of Thunder".

    • Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's run (the out of print omibus vol 1, vol 2 is out or the essentials/masterworks route)

Gotta start with the classic Stan Lee/Jack Kirby run. IMO, Thor is the character where Jack Kirby's genius really shined through as they both established such a wonderful pantheon with the Asgardians. Then when Roy Thomas and John Buscema got on the title with the Eternals saga it jumped to a whole new level. After we get the utterly classic run by Simonson followed by the solid run by DeFalco and Frenz. Man, Thor has a ridiculously rich history in Marvel.

Fraction's run isn't worth it imo. I liked 2 of the story arcs.
