so is thor a god or a nut job?
Thor
Character » Thor appears in 8599 issues.
Thor Odinson is the All-father of Asgard /God of Thunder, offspring of All-Father Odin & Elder-Goddess Gaea. Combining the powers of both realms makes him an elder-god hybrid and a being of no perceivable limits. Armed with his enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir which helps him to channel his godly energies. The mightiest and the most beloved warrior in all of Asgard, a staunch ally for good and one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse/omniverse. Thor is also a founding member of the Avengers.
god or nut job?
I listed him as a god. His hammer is pretty sweet but I never got into him much. I think he's mostly used a stereotype to bring out dialogue with the other avengers. Never thought he could carry his own book.
I actually had my letter to the editor printed in the back of Thor once. I told them I think they should keep his beard, its more authentic.
Serious? That's pretty fucking hilarious. Gotta agree with the beard though, just for the manly man factor.

How easy is it to alter hero origins? Thor's definitely a God at this point, but who's to say when Marvel will decide to retcon him into a Space Virus or a robot clone built by Loki or some other such nonsense?
Couldn't agree more about the beard, same holds true for Aquaman. Who's going to bother shaving underwater? It's ridiculous!

"Funny there is a Thor Clone right now. And Thor is dead."
The clone is the nutjob that Doctor Freakgeek was talking about, I think. It's no secret that Thor will be back. They've shown his hammer return to Earth and some dude with the initials D.B. on his duffle bag pick it up. There's gonna be some serious @$$kicking when he does return. Don't think Thor (or the other Asgardians, if they return also) will be too happy that Reed and Tony decided to clone a god.
It'll be Hammer Time...(sorry, I had to).
Thor is awesome. In standard 616 Marvel he's actually a Norse God. Ultimate Thor may or may not be a nutjob.
His book was always awesome, you guys should read Death of Odin and up from there. Great stuff.
Thor rocks. He's been my favorite superhero since I was a little kid and read my first comic book in a grocery store. Don't remember which issue # it was, but I believe it was the first time he fought the Juggernaut. Awesome fight. Never got to read the issue after it where the fight was concluded, though...
Technically Thor and the other Norse gods have been established in Marvel history as aliens. So, even though it's okay to call him a god, he's really an alien with god-like powers. Interesting, no? If you want to know more, I'll do some research and try to find out when Marvel stated that they were aliens.
It was mentioned by Thor himself during the last few issues before they let Image write some of their books for a year. He was dying because someone was poisoning the World Tree and started writing a memoirs type of thing. That might not be the only reference, though.
So nobody else thinks he's more interesting as the nut-job in Ultimates? I'm not a big Millar fan, but I like the twist he's given to Thor's origin. Norse gods are inherently uninteresting outside of their original text, so why not take the Ultimates/Earth X and give Thor (who I like a great deal) a more potent spin?
I think it could prove extremely interesting if he were a nut-job in Ultimates. I was kind of wondering if it were more like a Sentry thing and he Loki and the other gods manifested as an extension of his powers and his overactive imagination. I wouldn't mind the Norse god angle, however, because I think it was an interesting twist that he could have been a god, was shown to be a nutjob, then it was revealed that Loki was just trying to frame him.

Hahaha. What a thing to commit pen to paper for.

Yeah, if they gave Aquaman a beard, shouldn't Thor have 2 or 3?

Regular Thor has that Crazy Helmet... so I dunno. Ultimate Thor Seems more like a Hippy to me. A Dirty Smelly Hippy. :Struck by lightning:
Thor (616) is a God. He should also be the most powerful hero in the MU. Marvel needs to quit with the Sentry nonsense and have him whup his and the Silver Sarfer's shiny ass so the debate can be settled once and for all.
Ultimate Thor is a God and a nutjob which really isn't a stretch.
