Can someone tell me Thor's limits?

#1 Posted by Morku (26 posts) - - Show Bio

I know Thor is extremely powerful but I need to know how powerful. Is he capable of taking extreme heats? As in, hotter then 50 suns heat. Is Could he overload himself with power? I know every time him and Hulk fought his arrogance was a deciding factor, can that be considered a limit?

Thor's godly got not a true god like Odin or Zeus, his connecton to the Hammer is his limit
As a Thundergod he has shown superspeed. walked on the surface of the Sun, opened portals to dimensions and taken energy attacks from the classic Surfer
but this is all the Hammer giving him powers
He can't just fly back and bolt everyone while he stays out of range. he has to fight them all fair like a warriors true spirit fight on thier own terms. If he loses his connection  to the hammer he's just a mortal with big damge soakings
a tuff mortal with no hammer device DIES

I think he can handle a half of bottle of Bourbon. He can handle any six pack of beer that not made in Germany. Any German beer would make him very wozy and he would need assistance walking.  I know 2 shots of Everclear would knock him on his ass.

Thor is powerful even without his hammer.  His invulnerability, strength, stamina, weather control, earth control, etc is all him.  He has gone head to head with both the hulk and Hercules without his hammer and has made a good showing both times (he has beaten Hulk without it, though in the case the Hercules, Hercules has been demonstrated as the better hand to hand combatant).  He is not a mortal without it, he is still a god.  His hammer, however, amplifies his weather control, allows him to fly and grants him a host of energy manipulation and travel powers that he would not otherwise have.

Weaknesses for him would be is arrogance in a sense, but also his sense of honor, as he often times does not fully use his full powers when fighting someone who he does not believe to be up to his level.  He holds back in nearly all of his fights, particularly on Earth and against mortals.  This has cost him in fights with those who are on par with him strength and durability wise, even when the rest of his powers are more than sufficuent to beat them.  And while he is a skilled warrior ( having bested pretty much everyone on Asgard in fighting as a youth) his current style is more of a brawling/bashing style, and this also gets the better of him at times, as he often rushes into battle, counting on his strength and durability to see him through.

He is also stubborn as all hell, going head to head with Zeus for months in an old Thor Annual, and just kept coming back even though it was obvious Zeus would ultimately win, Thor just refused to accept it (then again he is Zeus's uncle technically, so...).

I suppose it would depend on which version of Thor we're talking about..

#9 Posted by Caligula (12417 posts) - - Show Bio

according to the trailer a fairly standard Taser shot can lay him out.

A bit above average... unless he flips his winged helmut around backwards... then he is Over The Top. aha... hah... yea...

He has no weakness or limits,for he is a GOD

He can solo almost the entire MU with all runes and gear at full power, with the exception of abstract and comsic entites..hell he's even been shown to hurt them sometimes.

He's close to tipping the scale of overpoweredness,if not there yet.but everybody luvs THOR....hmmm Chris Hemsworth >____^

@Enyalios:

Wait, Thor is Zeus' Uncle? Tell me more:)!
#15 Posted by Enyalios (142 posts) - - Show Bio
@weaponx:
Thor is the son of Odin and Jord, who was revealed in the MU to also be Gaia.   This is why he is physically the most powerful of the Aesir in the MU, because he is half elder god, unlike the others who are either full Aesir or half Aesir, half Giant.

Gaia is also the mother of Chronos and Rhea, Zeus's parents.  Thor then is the half brother of Zeus's parents, which makes him technically Zeus's uncle (and Hercules's great-uncle).

On to the topic... Batman could beat him... cause he's Batman. Batfactor= Insta win.

For real I am not really to good in my thor lore, but any cosmic beings would probably beat him. If this is current non-odin force thor.

This.
 But also its quite hard to detach Thor from his hammer because he has control over it.

and this.

My opinion , His main weakness is a hesitation to put an enemy away.  A urgency to be done with it.  He should have had serious "Hammertime" during Seige.  When  someone comes to your house to start (do do) , They get the Big Foot..  But  they eventually destroyed Asgard to the ground.
#22 Posted by Enyalios (142 posts) - - Show Bio

His main weakness is writers who don't know what to do with him or put him in their books in an attempt to demonstrate how badass a character who should never be mentioned in the same breath as him is (Rulk anyone?).  You're right though, Seige should have been his time to shine.  His home was threatened, his people being slaughtered, the gloves should have come off and we should have seen what a thunder god was truely capable of.  Instead, he barely used any of his already displayed feats, much less anything else.  I mean hell, Osborn (and the writers for that matter) thought so little of him, they sent Daken after him, like that was some kind of a threat.

He's limited by his culture, speech and fashion. Above all else, he'll never be respected till he owns a Hatchback.

Thor is above both zues and odin in godly status. If we were to remove the mythological fences. Zeus would be considered Thor's nephew. Zues's grandma is gaia. Thors Mom is Gaia.

Because thor is the son of the earth. he is a godly level above his own father.
