Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we're looking at the upcoming Thor sixth scale figure by Hot Toys courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles. This is based on his appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron and is part of the Movie Masterpiece Series.

Check out our unboxing video to see what it looks like in action.

The figure looks great. They've done a great job capturing Chris Hemsworth's likeness. He stands tall and the detail in his costume is incredible.

You'll notice there aren't seems at his elbows, just like with the deluxe Hulk figure we looked at last month. There is a rubbery-like skin over the arms that allows you to bend at the joint without it being visible. This is great for figures that have short or no sleeves. You do have to be careful not to leave the arms bent too far for too long of a period. You'll also want to adjust how the hand is position so the wrist joint isn't visible when on display.

The figure comes with two different Mjolnirs. One is pretty heavy and, as seen in the video, not really meant for the figure to hold with a single hand. The detail is pretty cool.

The second one is lighter but also contains an LED light inside. Batteries included! You just give the hammer a slight twist and it turns on.

There is a lightning effect accessory that slides right on it as well.

Here's a couple shots in lower lighting so you can see just how much it lights up.

You can see the detail in his hair sculpt. It's nice that they went with a sculpt and not 'real' hair since that sometimes gets messy. The only downside is it doesn't fully rest on his shoulders. If it did, you wouldn't be able to move or position his head very much. It's a fine trade off.

You are able to move his head a little from side to side. You can also see the little strands of hair that got away from the pony tail he made.

You can also see the detail in his cape. It has some nice pleats and a little discoloration to give it a more realistic look.

His outfit looks like it's metal and leather. They've captured all the detail from the movie.

His boots look good. You will want to make sure to keep the top part of his boots lined up so his "ankles" don't show. My figure seemed to have slightly weaker ankle joints. Usually these figures are able to completely stand on their own. Mine started to lean a little. It could just be mine but obviously you want to make sure to use the stands the figures come with when their on display.

There is an Augmented Reality app that allows you to take pics of Thor with other images imposed on it and in the background. I couldn't get it to work (as seen in the video). It might be that it's just not set up yet since the figure is still in the pre-order stage. You use the base to calibrate your device's camera.

As with most Hot Toys figures, you have plenty of hands and fists. You're able to have him hold Mjolnir in either hand.

If you're a Thor fan and don't already own a few sixth scale figures of him, you'll want to get this figure.

There is plenty of articulation, as you would expect. The detail is fantastic. I love the 'invisible' seams at the elbows but you just don't want to bend the arm too much since it'd get a weird looking bend. The figure is available for pre-order right now at Sideshow Collectibles.

The figure sells for $219.99. Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectible figures are for serious collectors. That price is pretty reasonable compared to some others. The detail, extra hands and light up Mjolnir are great additions to the figure. The figure does indeed look worthy to be in your collection. Let us know what you think.

I hate how Whedon butchered Thor's phalera in this movie. They should've kept his design from TDW. And his Viking braids are gone as well.

@theheat: I doubt it was Whedon's who made those changes. They have costume designers and people who work on hair. You could say their was a lack of oversight from Feige or others in charge or they may have simply preferred this design. At the end of the day the whole thing is rather subjective, wouldn't you agree?

@child_of_the_past: If Snyder gives input on costume designs, then I believe Whedon did as well. Thor's look in TDW was much better than it was in AOU. The only plus, is that armored sleeves are gone, which Hemsworth likes.
