An Exemplary Issue of the Period
Thor stories are usually at their best when they deal with the quasi-mystical threats on Asgard or other similar places. Writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby do a good job creating that magic/science fusion that gives Marvel's Asgard and it's surrounding realms a truly unique feel. This is such an issue.
Jack Kirby's art is in top form here. There are large panels and full page illustrations throughout, and at one point when Thor tells some mortals that Asgard is 'beyond description', Jack comes up with a panel to match.
Stan Lee plays to Jack Kirby's strengths, focusing on action in both the main story, and the backup 'Tale of Asgard'. All-in-all, this is an exemplary issue of the period.
