Thing

Character » Thing appears in 5140 issues.

Ben Grimm, The Thing, is the original, quintessential "tough-guy" of the Marvel Universe but because of his transformation, he's also the unfortunate member of the Fantastic Four. Ben's exterior is hard as stone and his gruff disposition might fool some, but inside he has a heart of gold

@geraldthesloth:
I agree.

I think Ben is totally misused by the writers these days.  All the other heavy-hitters seem to get strength upgrades pretty consistently, but not Ben.  He stays at the same level while even former low-level superhuman's surpass him (i.e. Captain Britain and Nova) and new characters seem stronger right out of the chute (i.e. Sentry, Skaar, T-Bird (Exiles) and A-Bomb).  Marvel also uses been as a "jobber" for other heroes and villians to fight and beat to prove how powerful they either are or have become.

This sucks!  There was a time when the Thing was right up near the top behind only Hulk, Hercules, Thor, Wonderman, Silver Surfer and Gladiator while being ahead of Namor, Colossus, She-Hulk and Iron Man.  Now nobody ever mentions and maybe they don't even think of the thing when talking/blogging about the strongest characters.

It's a damn shame.

@PowerHerc: i am as big of a ben grimm fan as any one, but the thing has NEVER been stronger than namor. he has never defeated namor in a fight ... without the assistance of the ff. the thing (solo) has never been able to defeat namor.

I didn't say he had defeated Namor.  I did say he was at one time considered stronger and I stand by that statement.

@PowerHerc: even w-a-y back in the day, ben was at 75 tons and namor was at 85 tons. later they upped ben to 85 tons and namor to 90... and that was years and years ago in the old guides to the marvel universe.  check out those old guides to the marvel universe and you will see i am correct. i have been following namor and ben's stats for decades.
also, go all the way back to ff #4, namor was considered to be such a foe as to be able to take on the entire ff.

Nope.  You got it wrong, bro.  You've actually reversed their max lifts.  In the first OHOTMU in 1983 Ben was listed at 85 tons and namor was listed at 75 tons (wet).  When the Deluxe edition came out in 1985, Marvel bumped Namor up to 85 tons wet and stated he could lift 40 tons dry (they left Ben at 85).  If you don't have the actual issues they've been reprinted in 'essential' editions.  Check it out, man, it's all there in print.  Plain as day.  In fact, Marvel's next OHOTMU was the Master edition (Printed on cards pre-punched for arranging in binders - remember those?) and in this one Ben was listed as being 'Class 90 strength' and Namor was listed as 'Class 100 (wet)' and 'Class 50 (dry).  The Master edition is the first and only one that lists Namor's Strength higher than Ben's.

I don't know about 30,000 tons but, 100+? Maybe 200+, but that may be going a little to far.
