At the 1978 Boskone SF convention, over dinner, Robert Asprin, Lynn Abbey and Gordon Dickson came up with the idea of creating a shared universe fantasy series. In 1985 it was adapted to comic form by Starblaze Graphics.

Under the brush of artist Tim Sale, the best-selling Thieves' World anthologies enter the realm of the graphic novel.
The first three graphic novels were later collected together and republished as a single, colorized volume.
