    The Professor Walks Again

At this point in the X-men catalog Professor X's origin story is pretty lame. What we know about him is this he served in the Korean War, has a dead dad, and lost the use of his legs because something fell on him. Not really the things great leaders are made out of, but this all changes in X-men #117. After a brief check in on how the X team is doing this issue jumps right into the action.

    The Good

I should say before we talk about the story that Chris Claremont and John Byrne's way of leaving threads of story lines to come in this run of X-men is super fun and I hope it never ends.

Professor X, still thinking his X-Men are dead, tells Lilandra the story of his first meeting with an evil mutant. This flash back gives us a glimpse into the relationship between Moira and Xavier, and take it from this old cynic those two were in love. We then jump ahead to Xavier after he gets back from the war and is traveling the world. He has his wallet stolen by a pick pocket in Cairo and after he uses his mental powers, to stop said pick pocket, he is attacked by another mutant with mental powers. After getting up from the attack Professor X simply walks into a near cafe, sits down, and waits for the mutant to show himself. Enter a man who calls himself Amahl Farouk who doesn't take long to challenge the Professor to a fight in the Astral Plain. While this fight has a great ending...

    The Bad

That fight should have been so cool all the way through. Basically the two of them in their Astral Plain form just change into armor and swing swords at one another. Then Amahl turns into a monster and Xavier kills it just like that. I don't know what it is I want from a battle of minds but that wasn't it. Also that pick pocket I mentioned earlier was Storm as a child, something that I think is just silly. Is it kind of fun that she was there? Sure. Does it add to the story at all that it was storm? Not yet, although I might have my mind blown.
