The Good

It wasn't until I heard the announcement of this series that I realized how much I missed the series. With Joe Harris joined by Chris Carter, the show's creator, you know it will be true to the feel of the show.

The show dealt with FBI Agent Fox Mulder and his quest to find the answers to the unknown and paranormal field. He believed his sister was abducted when they were young. His crusade resulted with him in charge of the X-Files in the basement of the FBI building. He investigated the strange and paranormal cases. Dana Scully was brought on to try to debunk the cases. Things progressed and eventually the two ended up together and on the run from the government.

This series picks up with the two living a normal life under new identities. When a former acquaintance shows up with a warning, they're pulled right back into the world they left behind.

The script and story fits perfectly. The characters 'feel' like I remember them acting. The art for licensed characters can always be tricky but Michael Walsh nails it. His style also sets a certain type of vibe or atmosphere to story and should do wonders for future stories.

The Bad

New readers can jump into this series but will miss out on the deep history of the characters involved. Other than that, I was deeply impressed with this first issue. I didn't think I could love an X-Files comic this much.

The Verdict

I've struggled through X-Files comics in the past and if this first issue is an indication of what we can expect, I couldn't be happier. Joe Harris has the task of taking these characters beyond where the television series left off. With Chris Carter on board, you know the characters and stories will go in the direction they are supposed to go. Michael Walsh's art is great and establishes the perfect mood for the series. As a long time X-Files fan, I am ecstatic for this series and cannot wait to see what's next. You will believe an X-Files comic can be a great read.

Absolutely getting this, been waiting a decade for the series to continue!!

I watched the show religiously (and still do). So I will pick this up definitely!

The pilot episode of course, the second episode introduces Deep Throat, then (if you don't want to watch all) jump to an episode called "Ice" (about... ah, no spoiler! Just watch it!) which is one of the best ever, and the best of season 1 imho. I don't remember the episode number but it's still early in the season. You can watch "Ice" as standalone, too, and without any prior knowledge.

Why do they have new identities?

They had that in the second movie and then the government let them come back, they didn't have to be on the run anymore.

Seems like an odd choice if this is set after the second movie.

Big X-files fan! Was one of the biggest things for me, from age 11 to 16, I guess! I spend so many hours running through the woods with friends, chasing aliens and worm parasite human hybrids! Good times!

Yeah, the show was great. One of the greatest shows of all time! I even loved the last two seasons, after Mulder was gone!mthe second movie was a let down though.

OH!OH! And Gillian Anderson was the first woman I was in love with! Had a MAYOR crush on her on age 12-14 and then later again at ages 20-23 (I was rewatching the whole show for the firsttime on DVD!)! Who knows what happens to my heart when I rewatch again!!! Or read this comic book! Lets find out!

I've also never watched X-Files, though it seems like something I would be into. I'm kinda interested in this solely on the choice of artist. Usually licensed comics like this have some sort of weird, attempting-realism approach, but Walsh's stuff looks a lot more like Francavilla or something. I dig it.

I was pretty young when the series was on TV, but I really like Joe Harris' writing, that just might give me a reason to pick this up.

I find that David Duchovny's acting is rather poor actually. But regardless I somehow became a fan of the show. I might look into this. : - )

Poor is too harsh! DD may not be the most gifted actor but I always thought he was a perfect fit as Fox Mulder. Besides, his appearance as DEA Agent Dennis "Denise" Bryson in Twin Peaks was brilliant!

I thought the exact same thing--smart choice in the artistic direction.

I was a huge X-Files fan back in the day. To be honest I don't remember much of the last few seasons, but this is almost inspiring me to dig out my old VHS collection of the show! I liked the comic.

According to a paragraph in their publicity stuff at the end, it said it came after the show and the movies. I was wondering that myself while I was reading it. There's nothing here so far that would make you think it necessarily came after the second movie though.

Read it and thought it was the best comic I picked up this week. Grabbing issue 2 is a must for me!

I watched X-Files religiously up until Mulder left (at the end of S06 I think), then I completely lost interest. I have them all on DVD and have re-watched them many times. Such a good show. I'd like to give this comic a go but I'm worried that the missing 3 years of plot might effect my enjoyment.

Awesome. Loved the show, and to be honest, wouldn't have known this comic even existed without the Vine. I'll have to check it out on my next trip to the shop.

Picked this up as soon as it was available and was thoroughly impressed. I've been a huge fan of the series for years and have been waiting for this book since they first announced it. The writing was sharp and felt like the show, and I really enjoyed the artwork. Felt like it was going for more of a style over substance vibe, which I always appreciate. Definitely looking forward to the next issue.

I never watched the show before but for some reason I wanted to get this book I liked it and now I'm borrowing all the seasons from a friend.

TV shows like X-Files, Nightstalker, Project Blue Book have always appealed to me. Although I haven't seen every episode of the series nor read any previous X-Files comic book, I had no trouble picking up on the plotline here.

When did Mulder and Scully have a child? Did I miss that on the TV show?

@ashr: Scully's baby was a huge topic late in the series. SPOILER: following a miracle conception, the usual cast of bad guys, Krycek, etc, began pursuing the baby. It was believed to be a hybrid/super soldier for a stronger race of human in attempts to survive the imminent colonization. So they changed their names, moved away, and presumably, put William up for adoption to keep him safe. It's been a long time, but I think that about covers it.

Thought it was a great return! It's bloody nice having a floppy on decent quality paper and unbroken without advertisments (I only normally read IDW stuff through trades so no idea if this is the norm for their stuff).

I'm over the moon X-Files is back and it's actually good! C'mon #2.
