Good Not Great
This is a bit of a confused movie. It seems to be wanting to be a character piece, A horror movie where the scares come mostly from your care for the characters. yet it also wants to be a viceral gore flick.
Well, it seems to be able to do both competently, but not exactly well.
I can not say anything bad about the performances. There is a stellar cast here, and everyone involved steps up to the plate.
The trouble is with the uneven direction, that has you digging nails into a chair in some scenes, yet wanting to fall asleep in others. Sorry, but this is a Joe Johnson movie, when it should have belonged to Del Torro.
