Rick Grimes
 The thing about comic books is that there is a comic out there in every genre imaginable for absolutely everyone, no matter how young or how old. The catch is that you have to simply be open to wanting to read them. Having said that, I was surprised that I enjoyed the first volume of Walking Dead as much as I did when Tony and I reviewed it for our Trading Views segment. If you missed the review, you can watch it here

I admit, I have never really been too keen on the horror genre and I never really cared much for zombies, yet there is something about The Walking Dead that did intrigue me; so much so that I am really looking forward to the AMC television show. After seeing some of the images from the set of the AMC TV adaptation, I admit I was really shocked at how incredible the zombies looked. However, it isn't only the accuracy of the zombies that have me psyched, but also the way actor Andrew Lincoln looks dressed up as Rick Grimes. He looks just like Tony Moore's artistic interpretation of the character. The series seems so promising that writer Robert Kirkman himself has branded it with his stamp of approval.
 == TEASER ==

"Writing this book for the past seven years I've gotten very close to the character of Rick. Andrew Lincoln embodies every aspect of the character that fans know and love. After seeing this photo I don't think that there will be a doubt in anyone's mind that he's perfect for the role."

 Frank Darabont
I personally always feel a lot better when a film or television adaptation of a comic book receives the stamp of approval from the creator. The series, whose first season will consist of six episodes is being directed by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile).

It also helps that Frank is a zombie nut who first discovered The Walking Dead several years ago whilst browsing in his local comic shop, which he discussed in a recent interview:

"I walked into a comic book shop some years ago and saw it. Since I happen to be a zombie nut, I took it home, I read it, and I said "Oh my God, there's a great series in this." And I've been the horse pursuing that particular carrot for five years now, delighted to finally be on the set."

Darabont's passion for both the genre and the series seem genuine, which are two very important factors when you are adapting a comic book series to the small screen. It is also part of the reason why I; an individual who isn't crazy about zombies; am really looking forward to the series. You have seen the images of the scary zombies, and the incredible accuracy of Rick Grimes' costume, but what do you think? Is The Walking Dead a show you are looking forward to seeing?

I can't wait to wait this show!

I'm definitely going to watch this. I'm a big fan of the comics. I'm just interested to see if they show some of the hardcore stuff from later-on in the series at all, or if they censor it or do it off-screen (IE: Numerous torture scenes).

Me personally?  No.  I am not much for Zombies, the closest I have gotten to liking Zombies is Shawn of the Dead.

@JoeRiccadonna:
no problem.  I have the first 4 hardcover collections.  The 5th one just came out and will be in my hands soon, hehe.

@ASKwhy:
I'll probably buy the first hardcover next time I go to the comic store which is probably tomorrow. I've always seen this series but never really looked into it. Sounds like up my ally after watching the Trade review on this site.

Always wanted to read the series, but never got around to it. Debating whether I should try to catch up in time for the show or just get acquainted with the characters first via TV.

That's pretty cool that they're filming it in Atlanta and sticking with the book. Since that's where Rick is trying to head to. A friend of mine told me who lives out there said they were casting extras. Did you look into it ?

I just started to read the walking dead comic and i am catching up in the trades and i really like it. But I don't like watching  tv and every time I try to watch a series on tv I stop because I just don't like to watch TV so if they don't play it on their web site then i will not watch the show.

HEll yeah i will

I may check out the first episode, but no promises. I guess they need something to replace Breaking Bad on AMC. I really know so little about the series.

It's always nice to hear creators working on a series actually care about what the project is. Here's hoping that level of dedication is reflected in the finished product. Far too often directors and producers just want to throw some project together that is more loosely based on the original product and slap the title on a movie or show.

It will be interesting to see, if nothing else, how they manage to make the zombies appear real in each episode.
The six week run is a bit odd. The way G-Man has mentioned in the past. That's really short for a TV series.

@FoxxFireArt:

Six episodes for the first season is pretty ideal, especially if the episodes are an hour long. It's a good way to gauge how it plays out in terms of ratings and critical reviews. Breaking Bad's first season was only 6/7 episodes and it was great. I hope Walking Dead would get the same success as AMC is starting to develop a good track record with great TV shows such as Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Adding Walking Dead to that channel will really make their television channel one of the more diverse out there. Can't wait!

@the_orange_crush:
Ah, I never watched Breaking Bad. I didn't know it's initial season was the same length.

this is the only non- super hero comic i buy !!!!

i will for sure be watching !!!!!

#40 Posted by ASKwhy (282 posts) - - Show Bio
@Bruce Vain: Yeah, I came across the casting call for zombies but you have to have a flexible schedule.  I have a regular 9-6 job so that wouldn't have worked.  I'd love to be a zombie on the show though.  The extras go through "zombie school" and everything, hehe.

I absolutely love The Walking Dead, it is one of the major reasons I got back into comics a year or two ago.
As for the show, I really hope I can see it. In Canada, AMC is a Rogers network channel and I get my satellite through Bell so I'm not exactly sure if any other Canadian networks will pick it up but a worst case scenario will be downloading and watching the episodes the day after they air.
Either way, I wont be missing this show!

As a fan of both the comic and Frank Darabont's film work I will absolutely watch it. I hope it's the high quality of storytelling that AMC's turned out with Breaking Bad and Mad Men (Rubicon doesn't look bad, either). However I'm still on the fence about Andrew Lincoln. Maybe it's just me, but that pic (as awesome as it is) he doesn't seem to be carrying himself much like Rick. I can see a lonely cop with a buncha guns... but not the Rick Grimes I know and love. Hopefully I'm wrong and he goes above and beyond. I never thought Bryan Cranston would be so effective at stone cold drama and there's three seasons of Breaking Bad (my favorite show on TV) that have gone beyond my expectations.
Also, i hope they can suck more colour out of the series. That shot is nice... but it's still too colourful for a Walking Dead atmosphere.

@ASKwhy:

Awww man that's a shame. :(

But that's pretty cool that they have like a zombie school thing for the extras. Maybe next time you'll have the opportunity to do it. :)
