It’s about damn time. That’s all I have to say about Tyreese finally making his appearance in the AMC The Walking Dead universe. Sure, the context is completely different, but since he was one of my favorite characters in the original comics, I’m just glad to finally have him around – played by Chad Coleman of The Wire fame no less. However, the “Highlander” rule for black folks on The Walking Dead is getting a little ridiculous.

While the introduction of Tyreese ranks as one of my favorite moments from this week’s episode, it definitely wasn’t the week’s biggest moment. And for the mid-season finale, “Made to Suffer” delivered quite a few great bits. Firstly, we finally get the first major confrontation between the survivors of the prison and those of Woodbury. More specifically, we get to see just how the Governor winds up with that eye-patch of his.

The overall fight between Michonne and the Governor was quite a brutal affair. Not only did Michonne stab a large piece of glass through the Governor’s eye, but she also shoved a sword right through his zombie daughter’s head. Michonne was clearly not playing around. But I will say, once Andrea walks into the room to end the fight, I’m surprised she took the fish tank zombie heads so well. She didn’t even seem all that phased. Girl has some issues if you ask me.

Additionally, we get to see Glenn and Maggie go berzerker style, using some rather gruesome methods to get themselves out of confinement. The one thing I can’t explain, though, is why Maggie hesitated to shoot Merle. The dude kidnapped you, tortured your boyfriend and now has a giant knife to his throat. It’s not like he would have been the first life you’ve taken; just two seconds ago you had no problem shoving a human wrist bone through some dude’s throat. Take the shot! But alas, that’s entertainment for you some times.

There were a few other nitpicks I have with the episode. Like when did Daryl get captured? Also, the cliffhanger was not nearly as strong as the mid-season finale to season two. But those are relatively minor gripes for an otherwise good episode. It was also cool to see Carl taking charge and continuing to become more mature even though he’s only like nine years old.

Overall, “Made to Suffer” was a solid hour of television, even if there were a few flaws in logic. So, what did you guys think of the season 3 mid-season finale? Sound off below.

Someone want to inform the Governor that he can pull the trigger way faster than Michonne can swing that blade?  No need to put down the pistol there, bro. Just sayin'.

@The Stegman: This upgrade is considerable physical than Oscar and seems mentally strong as well, since he's been leading his group for some unknown time.

Ahh good call. It's been a while since I've read those issues. The article has been edited. Thanks for pointing that out!

The mid season finale did not give us enough to break till February! It's just a horrible cliffhanger with nothing satisfying or holding us till the next airing!

Dang, poor prison black guy's fate was sealed when new black guy appeared. Andrea is back to being the dumb annoying one again. So much of this would be resolved if Michonne used her words. Good episode though.

Everyone who touched on the "Black" issue, fist bump. Its now become one of those things where I suspect the creators have even become conscious of it. Like an inside joke. But if this holds true, when Rick gets back to the prison there will be Three, count em, THREE, black characters all on Team Rick, AKA: Team One Black. We already know the shovel chick is a goner. But could Terese or Michonne really go to? Or could we actually see the prolonged use of two black characters on team Rick?

@KnightRise: This picture of Norman Reedus is from Pandorum. His jumpsuit says Shepard which was his character's name. So, luckily doesn't mean Daryl will die in the second half of the season.

Andrea is driving my last nerve, but i have a feeling she will betray the Governor. Daryl better not die, Tyrese is killed in the comics by the Governor when he is captured, and we know how the creators like to switch up circumstances to different characters...... just.......DONT KILL DARYL!!!

I saw twice on Facebook an image of beloved Daryl hanging by his throat....with his organs being reached at by Walkers..................I don't even......

But I'm not sure that its real, because Daryl wasn't wearing those clothes this episode although it could be latter this season...I'm scared

Walking Dead is very good.

I really wanted to see Michonne maul Governor more, but that was still good I say at least that his eye's been gouged. The real curve was thrown to me with Daryl and Merle at the end of the show. Gosh, you couldn't have made it anymore suspenseful!

great episode ! i hope that they don't kill michonne. i was surprise she survived her fight with the governor. i hate andrea. i like the scene where rick thought he had saw shane walking towards him, he looked scared and shocked.

Carl should be the new leader. He has all of the badass with surprisingly none of the crazy. That's right Michonne and Rick, the 11 year old can handle the apocalypse better than either of you... for shame!

i stopped watching at about episode 6 but ill be pissed if they kill daryl. kill carl or the stupid sherrif.

Actually, he did. He used a hatchet to kill scores of zombies when he went berserk after Lorie's death. A definitive nod to the comics and foreshadowing of things to come.

Fear not, the hatchet is there.

I hate this show so much.

If you've read the comic book, and you watch this show, please tell me why. Do you actually enjoy it? Do you like it better than the book? Can you appreciate both, because I really can't see how that's possible; it seems to be an either/or type of thing. The characterization and motives in the show seem so alien. When I read the books, things made sense to me. When I watch the show, I find myself exclaiming, "What the !@#$%; why are they doing that," far too often.

Two and a half seasons, and what do I have to show for it? - Daryl's a decent, original character. Like a lot of people, I too, thinks he's the best thing about the show. But he is only one man, and grossly outnumbered by the rest of the cast. - They've only really impressed me with one moment: Lori's death. They made that moment their own in a unique and poignant way. A distant second is Glen's battle with the walker Merle loosed on him. - That's it. That's all.

My opinion: The show should break Daryl off from the main group and leave the rest of them behind; make the show its own thing, with new characters, instead of the bizarre parallel-universe-thing that it is. I've been of this opinion since the end of the first season, and I became more sure of it the longer I watched. Though it certainly would've worked easier the earlier it was done. They've probably gone too far to do this now.

The thing that gets under my skin the most? Andrea. Do I need to say more?

I need to give up on this television show. Someone let me know if they get rid of the main cast in the future, and I'll peek in on it again.

Anyway, I freakin' loved the episode. It's good to see Tyreese finally making his appearance, although I expected to see Chris and Julie. But their absence is acceptable. I mean... some pretty heavy stuff happened to them. And Chris scared the crap out of me in the comics lol.
