Just When They Thought They Were Safe...

The survivors have been enjoying their new living situation and the safety it provides. As you can imagine, that won't last long.

    The Good

It's The Walking Dead. Since the television show on AMC, a lot of people have been talking about the comic and trying to catch up. It's hard to believe it's been eighty issues so far. The excitement and suspense continues to grab you as you read. The survivors may have recently found a safe haven, but obviously there's no way that could last. This comic is about surviving and that's when it's at its best.

In this current arc, No Way Out, Kirkman doesn't just dive in to deliver shock value. We get to watch the situation unfold and witness the different subplots as they develop. Along with the survival of the entire community, we also have the question of the different characters. Andrea is stuck in a bad situation, Abraham is playing a risky game, Rick might have to deal with repercussions of some of his actions in his leadership position, etc. This comic is and always has been more than just a comic about zombies.

    The Bad

There's some pretty big ass snowflakes when they're outside (yes, I'm stretching in trying to find something bad about this issue). The real bummer was the last page wasn't a surprise. You could see it coming. There will be some fallout but I'm used to the crazy, cliffhanger endings.

    The Verdict

Everyone should be reading The Walking Dead. I was catching up and was determined to just read the hardcovers. I gave up on that because I simply couldn't wait. Buy and read the hardcovers and catch up on the single issues if you haven't already. The Walking Dead manages to take you into a different comic book world that stands apart from other books. For eighty issues, the series has managed to continue the tale of surviving in a world filled with zombies. There might still be a lot of unanswered questions in the series but it doesn't matter. The book continues to entertain month after month.

If you haven't heard of the Walking Dead then maybe, just maybe you've just surfaced from the fallout shelter.  Welcome to 2011. Get adjusted to the idea of auto-tune and all your personal devices have an 'i' prefix.  On the plus side, there's a nifty comic book called the Walking Dead. Yes it's about Zombies but honestly, Zombies are the back drop.  The main story here is how people cope with under extreme pressure and stress.
