OM NOM NOM!!! GUUUUUUUD
If there is one reason I can recommend The Walking Dead (and believe me, there are dozens), it is because the last page of every single issue is amazing. Every single last page makes you go "Wow" or "Daaaamn." Every single last page is something that makes you need to pick up the next issue. Its not always a cliffhanger. Its not always a marvelous revelation that changes the way you look at humanity. But it is always something that takes your breathe away.
Issue 58 of The Walking Dead is no exception. Issue 57 and issue 59 aren't exceptions either. This book is good. This book is damn good.
Now I'll be the first person to make fun of Image comics, call several of its comics half plagarized from the main two publishers and refer to its founding fathers as two of the worst minds in the business. Mr. Robert Kirkman (also the mind behind the highly entertaining Invincible) blows all expectations the average reader has for an Image publication out of the water with this book. Well...not this book. If you've been reading The Walking Dead, you expect this book to be amazing.
The Walking Dead is not a typical Image story. Its not even a typical zombie story. The book isn't about zombies and trying to run away from them. Its about survivors. Its about characters and how they react when their families and friends are pulled kicking and screaming to their deaths, when society breaks down and there are no more laws, when there is danger around every corner and they're faced with having to make hard choices and become something they aren't comfortable with just to survive.
If you like zombies, if you like analyzing the human condition, if you just like reading good comics, do yourself a favor. Pick up the first trade of the Walking Dead. It'll be money well spent.
