The Uncanny X-Men # 512 - The Origins of the Species

coming of of the sisterhood arc which was, in my opinion, a very good arc i may be the only one actually thinks this but it had some pretty good moments when you go back and read it as a complete arc, like Emma attacking lady mastermind in diamond form to the Psylocke and Betsy inner conflict, you have to remember this arc isnt just a 4 issue arc its seeds have been planted way back in uncanny issue 501 with maddies first appearance, so this issue is pretty much an epilogue for the past 10 or 11 issues, i dont want to call this issue filler because when somebody says filler i instantly think this will be sub standard and that isnt what this issue is, so on that notte ill get on with the review.

I'll start with the art which is an improvement in this issue, the art is done by Yanick Paquette ive not seen any of his art so i have nothing to compare it to, but in my opinion its very much like Dodsons art work which i love by the way my only problem with theart is that Psylocke looks a little strange to be hones but that is only for the first few pannels she is in the rest seem fine to me.  I do however like the way that the whole book has a grittier look to it especially when we are introduced to the first sentinal, which just looks cool.

As for the story its like i said its kind of an extended epilogue in my eyes, there are a few really good points to the story like seeing the San Fransisco Hellfire club (ive always loved the x-books when the HC is involved) with Sebastion Shaw's grandfather and a woman who to me looks alot like Selene (i may be wrong). The thing ive not been a fan of lately in the X-books is the X club but with this issue that was all turned around, with the characters like Dr Nemesis being developed further, the Hellfire Clubs involvment in the sentinal poject as far back as 1906, the problem i had with this book is, it didnt really explain anything, they went into the past to try and find out what caused the mutant baby boom but to my knowledge this didnt happen saddly as i think this would of gave the book more volume than just the birth of Dr Nemesis and the original sentinal etc. 

Overall i think this was a good issue and they did the right thing by giving the readers a break between arcs and"finnishing" off some of the loose ends of the last severall arcs, but if this is a good thing or bad thing, it left me wanting more.  i gave this book a 3.5 out of 5 as i dont think its been the best book out lately but it was enjoyable and at the end of the day is that not why we read comic books?
