1,2 Kruun is Coming for You...3,4 He's at the door.
Kruun begins his long awaited revenge against the X-Men and no one is spared his wrath.
The Good
I really like the dialog between Kruun and Colossus before they go at it.
I like the way that Kruun uses the resources around him. using the shards of the break world bullet to construct a weapon capble of countering Kitty's phasing was a slick move. Some of you may wonder about how this is working, but I think the answers are in his conversation about the metal's properties last issue.
Kruun let's Kitty go as a part of his game, she's seeks the help of the usual suspects and I really liked these panels. Here we see Kruun dealing out fitting punishments to each he deems as responsible for his fall from power. I thought the best of these was Scott.
There's a nice exchange between Wolvie and Kruun and I'm looking forward to seeing them throw down next issue.
Haleena does something major at the end of this issue. Something I totally wouldn't expect from her.
Kitty get's a lot of panel time this issue, even if she has nearly no dialog (being out of the suit and all).
The Bad
I Think Kruun was overwritten this issue. I know you have to have the villain be imposing, have sinister presence, and pose a viable threat but it's a bit thick here. I love cunning, intelligent, villains who plan to tactically assault the hero. But dude, Kruun turned into the Goddamned Batgod this issue. Getting the drop on Mags, Scott,& Emma? Evading Emma's psychic scan because she was too lazy and arrogant to be thorough? Ruuuuuhhhhhhight...sure, why not. And I feel that Colossus should've put up a greater fight, even sans steel form.
Kruun's stalking of kitty came off less as sinister and foreboding and more like a horror movie cliche.
As much as I'm looking forward to the fight with Logan next issue, based on their past face off it really, really shouldn't be much of one at all. But then again Kruun does have the cure and he's now Bat-Kruun!!! So I suppose that changes the game.
The Verdict
When it's all said and done this issue's a buy, especially if you love Kitty/Colossus and have been keeping up with this arc so far. This issue has some bumps but most as do most middle issues in a arc. I totally trust Gillen to smooth out the lumps and deliver at the end of this series. Quarantine moved much like this arc has and I was thoroughly impressed with the ending their.
