How Will This Point 1 Issue Do?

Two stories in one. Will they serve as a good jumping on point for new readers?

    The Good

We've been seeing recently that the X-Men have a P.R. agent and they need to fully gain the public's trust in them to make things easier. The main focus is how do you sell having Magneto on your team without everyone freaking out? Kieron Gillen does a great job in showing Magneto's thinking and personality. The second story involving the city of San Francisco asking the X-Men for help works to tie in the two stories and serves to move the status of the team up in the public's eyes.

Carlos Pacheco on art? Thank you! The art here feels like an actual comic book story without the looking like characters standing around posing for a camera. Whether it's the details of Wolverine pulling on his mask or Magneto over the Golden Gate Bridge, it's a nice change of pace.

    The Bad

As with the other Point One issues, this isn't the best jumping on point for new readers. Perhaps readers who are familiar with the characters but haven't been reading lately. It's a self contained story but doesn't go into details such as why the X-Men are living on Utopia or why Kitty Pryde is wearing a glass dome on her head. I also found it weird that Emma is back to wearing her Hellfire Club lingerie.

    The Verdict

Can the public accept Magneto as an X-Men? If the team is looking to gain the public's trust, this is a major issue they need to address. With this Point One story, it is a self-contained story and gives some background on what's going on. It isn't completely new reader friendly though. Magneto is and should be a complex character and Kieron Gillen does a great job in showing his thoughts on the P.R. game. The villains in this issue aren't necessarily memorable but serves to move the story along. Carlos Pacheco's art makes this feel like an actual comic book instead of a bunch of pin-ups with some word balloons.

O_O still can't believe with all the tech and genius' the x-men know they couldn't design a cooler containment suit for Kitty???? Still have to read this issue, I splurged and bought like 10 comics today and randomly decided to pick this one up but really because I too was wondering about emma's hellfire clothing and how can magneto possibly help mutants' public image given his history XD

The cover makes too many errors, colossus is FLOATING XD, Kitty's leg is detached, emma is still in hellfire and namor just feels like a red herring

    ROFLMAO Didn't notice that, folk.

Glad to know this is a solid issue. I'm holding out hope that Gillen's run will be good. Quarantine was solid and restored my faith in Uncanny. Glad somebody else agrees with me that Greg Land's art (particularly of women) is flawed.

I still say that cover bothers me. I know Kitty is supposed to phase through walls but her leg phased through her thigh!

Why you Should Read This - No matter how good the writer is, it´s always hard to make a transition from a writer to another, especially when the person who´s leaving did such an impact in the X-Men lives as Matt Fraction did, but this issue proved to me that Kieron Gillen has all that it takes to lead the Uncanny X-Men into marvelous and surprising adventures, with a strong narrative and grasp in the characters. So this issue is the landmark of this transition, now that Fraction is gone...

      PR for the X-men 0

Cover I enjoyed this cover a lot just because it has the whole team and everyone on the cover had a part in this issue. Story A PR group wants to give the X-men and good name especially Magneto so they come to help them out. Also the X-men go fight people from AIM who is going to create an earthquake in the San Francisco area. Best Part I really liked the idea of a PR group coming to help the X-men because a big problem for the X-men is the general public. I think they need people to ...
