    Falling Flat

    The Comic
This is a newspaper comic. Please note that this is a full 16 page comic that was inserted into newspapers in the 1940's. These are not comic strips. This issue features the Spirit but has two other shorter stories one with Lady Luck and the other with Mr. Mystic.

This issue was not the best. Even the Spirit story was lacking a little. Over all the book gets three-and-a-half stars. The art is really good as usual but the stories fall flat. The one big thing is that this is a character changing issue for the Spirit. This is a real historical issue and if you are a fan of that kind of stuff and/or the Spirit himself this is a great issue to read and I would recommend it.

    The Spirit

As I said this a historic issue for Spirit as he is no longer able to be a friend of the police when he is forced to admit to murdering a man who murdered himself to put the blame on the Spirit. This not only changes things with the New York City police but especially with his friend Commissioner Dolan who is really effected by the whole thing. The Spirit also establishes his blood to be an extremely rare blood type of A-1. This could be critically important for a hero who is in danger of loosing blood fighting crime.

     Running Bunny
     Running Bunny
    Lady Luck
I have not liked Lady Luck that much in the four issues I was able to find in this series and this issue is no exception. The story is about a little girl (Bunny Van Hoff) who runs away from her parents who are getting a divorce and Lady Luck helps her to construct a letter saying that she will not come home unless the two of them get back together.

Why Lady Luck would do this is beyond me and I'm sure a lot of this has to do with the time it was written in but as we know it is a ridiculous concept and seemed odd for a Super-heroine. It also bothered be that Lady Luck gets into a car accident because she didn't see a semi-truck coming around a corner. It was as the comic was saying even woman superheros are bad drivers.

     King Kong er... Mr. Mystic
     King Kong er... Mr. Mystic
    Mr. Mystic
Mr. Mystic is ridiculous and this book is no exception. Mr. Mystic can literally do anything and is completely invulnerable. All his powers are based in magic so nothing means anything. I am really starting to hate this character as he is cheep it the way he works. He can just melt people at will and grow so large he can grab planes with his hands. There is literally nothing he can not do. They should just call him God and get it over with (obvious sarcasm)
