The Good
This has been a fabulous book from the beginning and before I even get into this review, I seriously suggest picking up this series. It's the best that Dynamite is currently offering, and they've got a great line up of books.
The book opens where it left off, in Citi Field with possibly tens of thousands of people infected with the virus.Wentworth pushes forward and continues his investigation of where this zombie gas originally came from. This leads him to a confrontation with his father and coming closer than ever to capturing Anput. It's a riveting read from start to finish and issue four ends with a great reveal page.
Everything positive I've said about this book in previous reviews applies here once again. Not only is Colton Worley an amazing artist, but his page layouts are some of the best laid out pages in comics. The pacing is amazing on certain pages, and I love seeing panels break into each other. Beyond that, while Wentworth is the Spider, Worley changes up the layout a bit and has spider-webs weave their way between the panels. It's a refreshing look at comic book art.
Writer David Liss has done a wonderful job at taking a public domain character and breathing new life into him. The character and the world he lives in is interesting and familiar. This issue has a great balance of the world of the Spider and the world of Wentworth, and each side of this character is just as interesting as the other. On top of that, this book is filled with a whole slew of great characters that all come together to give this book a lot of depth and create a fuller world.
The Bad
My only problem was a few of the Spider's pieces of dialogue. It was a bit smarmy, and over-the-top, but at the same time, a few of those lines had me laughing out loud.
The Verdict
As I've said before, this is a book you should pick up. It's a new take on an old favorite. This is a great issue, and as always, the writing and art are top notch. This book has a great cliffhanger, and I can't wait to continue reading The Spider next month.
The only problem I had with this issue was I felt that the Spider's dialogue, a couple of times, was a little over-the-top, but I may just be nit picking.
I highly recommend this issue and this series.
