After a fight with the Machine Man, the Jack O' Lantern landed in a coma and was sent to the hospital. However, it turned out that he was only faking the coma. In no time after he was admitted into a ward, the villain revived just as quickly and took the hospital inhabitants hostage, one of whom was May Parker's new boyfriend, Nathan Lubensky.

In her distress, May sought company from Peter, but he had to change into Spider-Man to perform the rescue. A successful infiltration later, Spider-Man defeated the Jack O' Lantern and freed the hostages from danger, but at the cost of upsetting his aunt who thought Peter as uncaring of her status.

This issue's sub-plots also revealed Marcy Kane to be a brunette wearing a blond wig.
