The Final Showdown
The issue begins with the Shade telling us why he has been remembering his past encounters with the Ludlow family. Shade tells how he received a letter from a woman who had believed she was married to the last Ludlow, Craig, until his brother Gary who they thought was dead showed up. The woman explained that her husband was a farmer and a good man at heart and how she thought the family's hatred of the Shade would die with him. She explained that since Gary had showed up he had been trying to stir up the family hatred in Craig and she was writing the Shade to come to their home and try to speak some sense into Craig. The Shade accepts the invitation to meet with the last of the Ludlow clan but decides to meet with Gary first. Gary's hate will not allow him to listen to the Shade so he attacks the Shade and is quickly killed. A short time after this we see the Shade meet with Craig Ludlow who is at first afraid of him until the Shade explains to him that he never kills a Ludlow without first being attacked by them. After that the two have a long conversation in which Craig tells him he wants to be a writer and the Shade offers to help him with his book so long as he doesn't try to kill him like the rest of the family had. They two also discuss whether or not a Ludlow is born hating the Shade or if it is something they are taught. In the end Craig decides to take the Shade up on his offer and the the family's hatred of him die.
The Good
We see Shade do a good thing by visiting the last Ludlow and trying to reason with him. Also, the Shade was nice enough to try and help Craig make something more of himself.
The Bad
The Shade wears a beret for the majority of the issue and that really bothered me I guess I'm too used to the top hat.
The Verdict
This was another great issue and a great ending to this story.
