    Flying Funky

This issue's got a decent cover. It's the kind of generic action menagerie I usually don't like, a bit overcrowded, a bit too zoomed in on the central focus, and without a background; but the blur effect creates some nice dynamism in the action, so it comes out kind of cool.

The interior artwork is pretty nice, but inconsistent. I couldn't really tell where one artist ended and another began, but the whole time things felt like they kept changing. The styles aren't drastically different, it's close enough to look like one inconsistent artist, but it's still a little awkward.

Hawkman's inner monologue is pretty nice. His thoughts on Green Arrow help guide the narrative really well, and you can kind of see how JLA is being set up, plus just a lot of stuff about Hawkman's character. This crossover was a good point for me to jump back in.

Not a lot really happens in this issue though. Hawkman and Green Arrow attack a 'nest' of Thannagarians, we find out some odd but intriguing information, and then Green Arrow just kind of disappears. Seriously, I'm baffled. One minute he and Hawkman are leaving the interrogation together, and the next Hawkman's with his girl and one of GA's friends. He doesn't even join them on the plane to New York. Did he just decide to leave? When did that happen? And as for the aforementioned interrogation, it has a similar sudden shift in tone, when the captive goes from manly defiant warrior to sniveling coward for the most bizarre reason, contradictory to all the torture we'd already seen.

The reading order for this crossover is really awkward as well. This issue ends with pages that mirror the end of the latest Deathstroke. Basically, 90% of this issue takes place BEFORE the latest Deathstroke. Shouldn't they have just done a little bit more with this issue and then had Deathstroke get release afterwards? Or use NEXT Deathstroke in the crossover? It just feels odd.

    In Conclusion: 3/5

Hawkman's not terrible, but it's not super great. I'm enjoying this crossover for the most part, but each part of the story seems pretty lacking on its own thus far. This crossover's a little forced, and each tie-in has to slow down the story to make sure everyone is caught up with everyone else.
