According to Deadline. Joesph Gordon-Levitt is working on finalizing a deal with Warner Brothers which could bring one of Neil Gaiman's greatest comic book creations to life: SANDMAN. The rumor mill has been spinning for quite some time that JGL would be starring in the film, and this current deal he's working on has him attached as the protagonist in the film, possibly Dream of the Endless? In addition, there's a rumor that says JGL, who will also be appearing in next year's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, may be looking to direct the film as well. He made his feature directorial debut this past year with the well received Don Jon.

Also attached to produce is David Goyer, who's had his hand in numerous comics-to-film properties including Blade 2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, in which JGL played John Blake. This will be big news for Vertigo fans as this long beloved series may actually make it to the big screen.

Sounds good, JGL seems like a good fit, although I kind of imagined Dream as a little more lanky than JGL is.

Stop it! Just stop it! I've been hearing rumors of a Sandman movie since Claire Danes was in My So Called Life, and Nirvana was still a band. Next you going to tell me Preacher was just picked up by AMC......... Oh wait. What? AMC Picked up Preacher?

I mean, maybe it would work as a trilogy.

But I don't know how confident they'd be sitting up a trilogy without knowing how successful the first movie is. And despite its utter iconism to the comic book community, Sandman is hardly a big name general audience members.

I heard that Neil actually want Morpheus to be played by Benedict Cumberbatch or Tom Hiddleston. I would like to see that happen but Tom's probably out of the question due to his connection with Marvel. Hmm...But there is nothing wrong with JGL. But I would like to see it on HBO.

Oh. When I heard about a Sandman movie I totally thought this would mean we getting an original Wesley Dodds Sandman movie. This sounds interesting though.

He has the skill for it, and looks just like him too me atleast.

The Comic Vine page is really extensive on him and all of the endless but you should really read the books.

It would be awesome if the movie looked like Dave Mckean's art work, as long as it didn't look as cheaply made as Mirror Mask was......... Still like that film.

The god of dreams, Morpheus of The Endless. It's the greatest thing to be ever published in the comic medium and is so good it transcends comicdom and became actual literature. No exaggerations.

Well, Kick-Ass got 2 movies before it, soooo... I am thinking it is better then Sandman.

After watching Don Jon, I'm confidant in JGL as a visual stylist, hopefully he finds himself a good writing partner though I'm sure they'd have someone make a few unoffical passes at it. EDIT: Uggg Goyer is involved.....nevermind

Sandman though that is a tough nut to crack, likely next to Watchmen which while a faith adaptation is not a good film. Which is the key. To quote Max Scoivlle in a very eloquent episode of his old Study Hall show

"Recently we have lost sight of what adaptation is, espically with comic books coming to the big screen every two weeks. Adaptation implies a certain amount of compromise and transformation during a subjects transition between mediums."

This is great news, hope it happens. I think JGL is a very competent actor so I think it could be good without being over the top. And while we're all putting in our casting calls. I'd like to put forward Ksenia Solo from Lost Girl for Death. Recommending partially because she's awesome and partially because I heart her.

Could work. Can they possibly encapsulate the terror that is the Corinthian in live-action though? And should they succeed, will I ever be able to watch such a thing? I have doubts.

Oh my god, I have high hopes but this might be one of the hardest comics to adapt to film. I still am stupefied by this hours later.

This is some pretty awesome news. JGL is a very talented actor/director so I have a lot of faith in him, and with Gaimain hopefully heavily involved i think this could actually turn into something very good even with Goyer attached.
