Wow, A great start to an even greater comic series. There is something about the sandman that you can't stay away from. With Neil Gaiman writing, and Sam Keith's amazing art work, dream is one of the most under rated comic heros (if you can call him that). If you have not read this I think you should seriously consider it, if you have read it read it again. THere is not much more to say about it.

Honestly, if I didn't know the masterpiece this series became I would have thought nothing like this, now yes I did give it five stars because as a first issue, it was that good. However, as an introduction of things to come it actually has quite a different feel to it than what you'll get from the majority of the series. In this issue we get our first taste of Dream, and the first mention of The Endless, and honestly its quite horrifying. This issue is like the "before" in who Dream is before he begins his life-changing journeys and let's just say he's not a very pleasant fellow. At the same time you can't exactly hate him, for what he does is just, though not a justice anyone would want to be on the receiving end of.

In this first issue of The Sandman there are several things, like in any series, that get forgotten/undone later, such as the answer to who is more cruel, Death or Dream? Yet where it triumphs over other series is how the events begun in this issue that seem so unimportant would return to prominence years later as the saga continued. In conclusion, this is a spectacular story, and the art is actually quite good if you think of the decade in which it was made and honestly, you would be hard-worked to find any true faults in it. Always intense even when nothing's happening, the ending just leaves you craving more.

So if you haven't already begun The Sandman, do so without delay, you won't regret it.

I've heard good things about this series. (Who hasn't?) So I decided to give it a look, myself.

So some group of occultists try to summon Death and trap her so they could have immortality. They get the wrong creature. They end up with her younger brother, Dream. They keep him trapped for 70 years. But they make a mistake and he escapes.

Now he's got two things on his mind, restoring order to his place in the universe, and of course, revenge. He gets the latter by sending the son of the original occultist (who followed his father's footsteps) into an endless nightmare. Now he's got to do the former.

I really liked the pacing, every event went by without dragging or moving too fast. And the narration parts weren't annoying, meaning they were used correctly.

The only problem I have is the art. I don't particularly like it. The colors are way too bright and a few of the opening pages are cluttered. But I remembered how old this comic is, so I tried to just deal with it.

If the rest of the series is like this, then I can see why so many people love this series. (And why DC keeps milking it.) Hopefully the art gets better...
