As a whole a collection goes this is great. All those stories reprinted in one fairly priced trade. Most of the stories are a little expensive by themselves I do admit, but collected in this trade it doesn't seem so bad.
My favorite of this whole trade was The Merv story. It is also the only one I kept in its original form along side this trade. Everything else I didn't have before this trade or sold after this trade. Merv, Pumpkinhead, Agent of D.R.E.A.M. is a great spy action story in which we all get lost in fact or fiction.
The Danny nod story is a nice comic because of the great comic artist attached to it. There is an Adam Hughes splash page. If you are a fan of Adam Hughes you know this splash of topless women makes it worth looking into.
The Thessaly story is a good read collected. Separately I was forgetting clues and not picking up as much of the planted evience hidden in each of the issues. With the trade I could go back and forth with more ease to double check things. I enjoyed it a lot more this way.
The last part of this book is the questions we have about dreams. These dreams are presented as short stories about dream concepts.
- What Causes Nightmares?
- Do Dreams Sleep and Have Other Dreams of Their own?
- Why Are So Many Dreams Sexual in Nature?
- Why Do Some People Dream in Color and Others in Black and White?
- What Causes Recurring Dreams?
- Are There Really Universal Symbols Which Occur in Dreams and Can They Be Interpreted by Experts?
- Why Aren't You Supposed to Wake a Sleepwalker?
- Why Is It Often So Hard to Remember Your Dreams?
It makes sense how Bill Willingham ties most of it together.
The layout of the trade was nice. Each story was separated by a Willingham introduction. The Covers for each of the stories would be collected in a cover gallery at the back. By removing the covers the stories read smoothly, especially The Thessaly story.
I highly recommend this trade for any Sandman fans, Willingham fans or just lovers of a good read.
Cheers!
