Enter Death
One of the most memorable issues of the series. Dream is moping; he feels unsatisfied even though he has finally escaped captivity, taken revenge and reclaimed his objects of power. That is until perky older sister Death shows up and he follows her as she makes the round reaping souls. In the face of her eternal optimism despite how much she is hated and feared, he comes to realize the poetry of her purpose - and his own.
With it's day-in-the-life look at Death, and the artistic and written anthropomorphic portrayal of Death, this issue became an instant classic. While in retrospect it doesn't seem nearly as revolutionary as it did at the time, it's still highly enjoyable. If D.C.'s mainstream titles were like Hollywood action films, this would be an independent drama, slow and gentle, but charming and insightful, with just a dash of humor.
