    THE GOOD

The art was really well done. The story, though fragmented and structured different than most books, was refreshing and entertaining. I enjoyed how the book didn't take itself too seriously. I liked how the story went back and forth from back story, to present, to vignette.

The introduction of the main villain was well done as well - had a nice "Ring" feel to it - which made it pretty horrifying. The last page shows just how powerful and dark this new villain truly is... making the light of the Ray shine far brighter when juxtaposed.

    THE BAD

There were far too many "your naked" references. I realize it is a standard thing to be ashamed of, but it diverged from a plot device to a nagging reminder. It would have been nice to know a bit more how he creates the illusion of the "suit", but it is possible that will be in one of the upcoming issues.

    THE VERDICT

Recommended. I think it is a great new mini-series. I love it when new ideas take off. The best part about it, as a 4 part mini-series, the monetary investment is relatively small - and after reading this issue, more than worth it for the entertainment value provided.

In fact, I think this issue actually focuses MORE on his personal life, while the superheroics are just a plot device. It makes for a nice fun read when the bulk of it is driven by Lucien's very ...

I will freely admit that I only know two things about The Ray, Diddly and Squat. I picked this comic up after seeing a preview for it in Aquaman. Let me tell you, this book is awesome. We start with the Ray, Lucien Gates, narrating his origin story while simultaneously fighting some random jellyfish monsters. Apparently, Lucien was hit with, "an experimental thingamajig ray" and gains light based super powers. The rest of the issue deals with Ray interacting with his supporting cast, many of who...
