I will freely admit that I only know two things about The Ray, Diddly and Squat. I picked this comic up after seeing a preview for it in Aquaman. Let me tell you, this book is awesome. We start with the Ray, Lucien Gates, narrating his origin story while simultaneously fighting some random jellyfish monsters. If you know me on what I really like about comic books….then you know this is totally my type of book I love to read, it’s just plain awesome and I hope it turns into an ongoing eventually (or have him around more).The issue starts with the Ray in full costume and everything fighting giant evil jellyfish. THE GOODThe art was really well done. The story, though fragmented and structured different than most books, was refreshing and entertaining. I enjoyed how the book didn't take itself too seriously. I liked how the story went back and forth from back story, to present, to vignette.The introduction of the main villain was well done as well - had a nice "Ring" feel to it - which made it pretty horrifying. The last page shows just how powerful and dark this new villain truly is... making the light ...

Everybody Loves The Ray 3
The Good: I may not be too fond of the cover itself, but the logo is FREAKING AMAZING. This is another new DC title that is damn well close to being a Milestone comic. It stars an ethnic hero who isn't defined by his race, in a series that places equal importance on his personal life and superhero life. In fact, I think this issue actually focuses MORE on his personal life, while the superheroics are just a plot device. It makes for a nice fun read when the bulk of it is driven by Lucien's very ...
