Obsidian Entertainment Want To Make Another 'Star Wars' Video Game

Posted by No_Name_ (17403 posts) - - Show Bio

Star Wars and the future of Star Wars projects, games and films have become the thing to talk about lately. From who will be the director of the next Star Wars film, to whether the next spin-off movie will feature a young Han Solo or focus on Boba Fett, Star Wars has been on everyone's mind. Since the sale of Star Wars to the Walt Disney Company back in October, many expected major to be made to many Star Wars licensing agreements. Would Dark Horse continue to publish Star Wars comics, for example? What about video games? The last big Star Wars game was 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II,' a game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. So is another game made in a similar vein to be expected from Obsidian in the near future? Based on a recent interview with Obsidian's CEO Feargus Urquhart, the game dev is "heavily lobbying to develop a new Star Wars RPG."

“I would say it’s within the top three pitches we’ve ever come up with,” the head of Obsidian stated. But what about the focus? What point in time will this next game take place? The great thing about the Star Wars Universe is that it is so vast, you can choose any point in time, really.

== TEASER ==

There’s a lot of different eras in Star Wars, and that’s what we would focus on,” Urquhart replied when I pointed out that The Old Republic’s relative lack of success could have Disney seeing that license in a less than favorable light.

We pitched a between-Episode III and Episode IV game [to LucasArts]. Because we think that timeframe is super interesting. It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few. So it was an interesting time to set a game, and you know, Chris Avellone came up with a really cool story…We also latched onto it because it has elements people remember, but not the stories. It can just completely not involve [the movies]. It can tease them, but nothing else.

Based on the Interview with Urquhart, Obsidian Entertainment is ready to get to work on the next game as soon as Disney gives them the green light, but what do you think? Did you enjoy 'Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II'? Would you like to see Obsidian develop another Star Wars RPG? What did you like about the first game? What would you like to see change? Let us know in the comments.

I'd say "Just tell them 'No'," but LucasArts hasn't been doing much better.

I love the Old Republic games so yes....but the second one was really rushed. It was another case of a game getting released before it was finished.

I hear it will be a story based on the Great Jedi Purge. That would be interesting...

So the guys who didn't finish making KotOR 2, and released it with a broken ending, want another chance to not finish and release another star wars game?

I'm going to go with no.

Obsidian makes great games but publishers constantly rush them and their games out out half done, if Lucas arts lets them make this game they need to let them finish it.

If they said the they could choose anytime in the star wars universe to go why would they continue to go to they place that they'v been going to episode I-IV are great but there's been movies video games books , comics about that time period , i wish they would go to another time period and new character am so sick of obi-whatshisface

The last Star Wars game was the Force Unleashed 2 not KotoR 2

I would love to play another star wars rpg. I have no objections to obsidian but I would love to see a bethesda or bioware star wars rpg

Given a reasonable budget and decent deadlines I'd play another KOTOR. If they do this BS that games like Mass Effect have done where they release an unfinished game then sell expansions and addons I will not be playing it.

Precisely. I can see really good things IF Obsidian are allowed to do their thing.

so they wont to make a game that takes place between ep.3 and ep.4 so they wont to make The Force Unleashed 3? they should just stick to the past or go to the future but game devs need to stop making games that are sequels / prequels to movies becouse they never work

I want Bioware to make a star wars RPG. KOTOR 1 was an amazing game that I played at least 10 times on the xbox. I trust THEM to make a good star wars game. NOT Obsidian!

Meh, not BioWare, not interested.

I loved KotOR and even KotOR II (it's flaws aside), so this is amazing news for me. I'd really love it if there were a KotOR III. That, to me, is the most interesting Star Wars time period. And I desperately hope we don't see another game between episodes III and IV. That era has been far too overused. Old Republic all the way!

I would love to see a kotor game that is set during darth bane's time. It NEEDS to be made by bioware, and I want to see darth Bane.

Sadly, I haven't liked a Star Wars game since the Jedi Knight series...

I wonder what the main characters will be like if they do decide to make a game

I'd like to see another game by them. I really enjoyed the KOTOR games and it'd be fun to see them make a newer one.

It wasnt Obsidion's fault that they were forced to rush their game out...

but will they finish it?

Even as flawed as it was, Kotor 2 is still one of the best Star Wars games ever made, I say give them another shot at it. Even if it's half as good as Kotor 2 I'll be happy.

I actually really liked KOTOR 2...despite the ending, the game had a TON of depth. Completing all the side missions made it a 72 hours+ story, and the combat was fantastic. My only disappointment with this announcement is that they aren't making a sequel to KOTOR 2...I want to know what happens w/ the Exile and Revan =(

If you really want to know....read "Revan" by Drew Karpshyn. Honestly I hated the way they made a book about what happened to those two, but that is considered canon.

Not like anyone else can make a good Star Wars game...

Wasn't the last Star Wars game the Old Republic MMO?

In truth its all irrelevant to me....for I just wanna see Star Wars: Battlefront III already myself. Still, it is intriguing to read about this.
