Plot Summary
Crimson Commando replayed the footage of Skids escaping with the Mutant Liberation Front to Cable. However Cable didn't buy the lies that Commando spun about Skids being in league with the MLF. Freedom Force had found Cable in the security complex left in a paralysed heap with his bionic arm melted to a stump. They accused him of working with the MLF. Blob & Pyro tried threatening him with violence, but Cable wasn't intimidated. Instead Commando confided in him that Tritium had gone missing from the facilities that the MLF had attacked. Cable knew that Tritium was radioactive and had been used to create Hydrogen bombs, and continued to deny any involvement with the MLF. The interrogation was interrupted by Mystique's announcement that X-Factor's Ship had returned. Freedom Force left Cable's cell just as he finished repairing his left arm. Left alone in silence, Cable vowed to stop the MLF and save Rusty & Skids.
Fresh from their Atlantean adventure (see New Mutants Annual #5) Warlock flew the New Mutants back to Ship. Archangel flew out and tore passed them without even greeting them (see X-Factor #51). However, the rest of X-Factor were more meaniable as the welcomed the New Mutants back home. Wolfsbane played with baby Nathan Christopher while Beast gave Boom-Boom a giant bear-hug. Unfortunately Sunspot broke the news about Moonstar staying behind in Asgard and asked Cyclops if there had been any news of Rusty & Skids.
Meanwhile, Cable was curled up on his bed. The guards entered his cell to check on his health. However, he had a concealed blow dart with which he knocked out one guard before he punched the other. Cable fled his cell.
Onboard Ship, X-Factor & the New Mutants watched the footage of Rusty's arrest. The New Mutants were outraged to see their friend being brutally punched by Blob and wanted revenge. Even Wolfsbane wanted to teach them a lesson, to which Iceman covered them in snowballs to cool them down. All the New Mutants then promised not to attack Freedom Force unless they were attacked first. Cyclops then placed a video call to Freedom Force. The receptionist claimed that they were in a meeting, so Cyclops left the message that they wanted Rusty & Skids to be safely returned.
Back in Washington, Mystique held a meeting with the rest of Freedom Force to discuss their options since they couldn't return Rusty & Skids. They didn't want to let that information go public. However, they were interrupted by a guard who announced that Cable had escaped. Blob and Pyro ran out of the meeting room unaware that Cable was hidden around the corner. When they ran passed he hit Pyro in the face with a gun. Stunned, Pyro was unable to do anything. Blob loomed over Cable, but he used Pyro's flame throwers to stun Blob. Both Blob & Pyro were immune to the flames, but they had been caught off guard giving Cable the chance to jump through the window. Once on the ground Cable used the gun to shoot at Blob before running away.
The New Mutants enjoyed some downtime. Cannonball called his mother and Sunspot lifted weights. The stopped everything and their mouths hung open as Boom-Boom entered the room. She had designed herself a new uniform that was off-the-shoulder and revealed her legs. Sunspot flirted, and Warlock gaped, but Rictor didn't even noticed her because he was so caught up talking to Wolfsbane. He just accused Boom-Boom of showing off. Wolfsbane began talking about how hr adoptive Moira MacTaggart had saved her life, and Rictor flattered Wolfsbane saying how she was pretty like Moira. Boom-Boom was insulted when she over-heard Rictor describe her as a 'sister', and instantly developed a sense of competition with Wolfsbane. She insulted Wolfbane and argued with Rictor. Boom-Boom even threw a minor time-bomb at Rictor, and criticised his punk look (which she had styled for him in the X-Terminators mini series). The argument ended when Wolfsbane complimented Boom-Boom's daring and risqué new outfit.
Blob leapt out the window and ran after Cable. He called out to warn Silver Sabre about a trap Cable laid for him. Sabre slowed in time before the cheese-wire severed his head, but was still severely wounded. Blob swore to kill Cable, but Cable had already made it to a helicopter on the roof.
Meanwhile, Wolfsbane had called Moira MacTaggart on the video-link. She was shocked by Moira's revealing leather outfit, but happily told her about the adventures she'd had in Asgard. When Wolfsbane had finished describing Hrimhari, Moira grew angry and demanded Wolfsbane's immediate return to Scotland. Wolfsbane cringed and begged to stay with the New Mutants, but Moira was determined that Wolfsbane should leave the New Mutants for her own safety. Moira ended the tranmission so suddenly and Rictor comforted Wolfsbane.
Crimson Commando admired Cable's style as Freedom Force watched him take off in the stolen helicopter. Mystique was less impressed and ordered Freedom Force to capture him immediately.
