The New Avengers # 31 - Revolution, Part 5
is a comic book published by Marvel Publishing & released on 8 / / 2007Plot Summary
Overview
No hype! No BS! The most important last page of any Marvel comic this year! Do not miss it!
At Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorium, Wong and Jessica Jones try to make small talk when the Orb of Agamotto shows Strange injured. He tries to talk to Wong but the sword sticking out of his chest doesn't make it easy.
Back in Japan, the "new" Avengers are still in the middle of their battle against the Hand. Wolverine tells the others to fight to kill. Ronin doesn't really like that idea. Soon the fight is taken outside. Spider-Man is surprised to see the number of ninjas they are up against. He wonders if they are outsourcing and if they have a good benefits package. Ronin soon joins in with the "mid-battle witty zingers" which causes more concern for Spider-Man as he will have competition in that department. Elektra tries burning Luke Cage which just upsets him more.
Dr. Strange is able to tell Wong to open the book of Karkuthi. Strange's astral form is trapped by the Hand's dark magic. Uttering an incantation, Strange's astral form is freed. Iron Fist tries telling Maya to fight her brainwashing. He tries reminding her that they are all there to help her. Strange's astral form finds her. He says another incantation and says she will be free. Maya stands there, seemingly in shock.
The others can't figure out how to get the ninjas to stop. They figure they will only stop when Elektra tells them too. Grabbing a sword, Maya sets her sights on Elektra and runs towards her as she is busy fighting Cage. Maya is able to thrust her sword into Elektra. Everyone looks down as Elektra lies on the floor. Wolverine smells a stench and the Hand retreat. As the rest of the Avengers look upon Elektra's body, they are surprised to find that it isn't her lying there. They appear to be looking at the dead body of a skrull. Iron Fist asks what is this supposed to mean.
Back at the Sanctum Sanctorium, Jessica asks Wong if they are all alive. He says he believes so. Relieved, Jessica concentrates on feeding her child. She then opens her eyes and...

This series does not let you down. We are still in the same fight from the last few issues. It's hard to believe that Bendis and Yu can keep filling these issues with content. Each week, this is usually the first comic I read.
I love the team's dynamics. We still have this unlikely team that just works so well together. And now with the addition of "Ronin," it's just that much better. It will be interesting, as Spider-Man noted, to see how he and Ronin will compete with each other. How long until either Wolverine or Cage tries putting a stop to their banter? Also, I've said it before, Wolverine's protrayal in this comic is my favorite. I just get bored of him in his solo series and I'm not even going to get into Origins.
I was a little concerned with the Registration Act and the death of Captain America and how it would affect the team. I'm glad they are able to carry on Cap's dream.
One last thing, what's up with the Skrulls? Bendis keeps getting me excited and scared at the same time.

Seriously I jumped into this issue wondering wtf is going on. But caught up to speed (Bendis just has that touch, i dunno why).
For one, the art is actually pretty brutal here. I've never seen edgy art like this, akin to Ashley Wood (when he did the penning art for Contra - Shattered Solider). Very gritty, and dirty style.
Plus the team-up fighting an insane amount of ninjas within Dr. Strange's lovely abode is a neat touch. Although Elektra with the team is a skrull. Where is our old femme fatale?
I do have to admit Bendis is getting way too ahead of himself here. Although he tries to get an idea going, maybe he should have more patience. It may just be 32 pages with ads, but there's still some strength he can gain. Or just the fact he's burning himself out, just maybe.
Hopefully we'll get an answer about Elektra's whereabouts. Something didnt seem right at all. Smells funny. (no pun intended)

Well lets start with the cover. I really liked it. I was hoping to really see Maya take down Elektra. Too bad it was a skrull inside.
The art inside sux. I hate hate hate it. That lowered my rating of the book exponentially.
The writing is kinda weak...but I understand what Bendis was trying to do. I think Bendis needs to get better or lose one book to write so this can be better.
Spiderman and Ronin are fun together I like it. Dr. Strange not dying was fun and cool. With a team book not everyone can do something and this is fine...but I am wondering why Spider-Woman is even on this team anymore besides for T and A. I used to like her. I am glad Maya is staying around. So Elektra did not die. I kinda wish she would. Anyways I hope the thing with Jessica and Luke's baby is interesting in the future.
