The New Avengers # 29 - Revolution, Part 3
is a comic book published by Marvel Publishing & released on 6 / / 2007Plot Summary
In Japan, the "new" Avengers find themselves surrounded by Elektra and the Hand.
Flashback to the previous day at the Raft prison, the "new" Avengers face the "mighty" Avengers after searching for Captain America. It was a trap to lure them there. They find that their powers have been negated thanks to Iron Man and a localized neural net. Dr. Strange acts quickly and utters a chant. The "mighty" Avengers find themselves confronted by their worst nightmares. Sentry sees Void, Wonder Man sees his brother the Grim Reaper, Ms. Marvel sees some monsters (brood?), Ares sees is father, but worst of all, Iron Man sees a deceased Captain America. By the time they regain their composure, the "new" Avengers have escaped.
Back at Dr. Strange's sanctum sanctorium (which is still boarded up with a sign that says a Starbucks is coming soon) the team is down after discovering that Steve wasn't there. Immediately, Iron Man, the Avengers, and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents arrive. They are surprised to find that Dr. Strange has apparently sold his place. They have the paperwork from the Starbucks Corporation that backs it up. Iron Man doesn't detect any lifeforms inside. Legally they have no reason to enter. Inside the heroes prepare for an attack as Black Widow claims she heard a gunshot. They enter to find the place completely desereted. Dr. Strange is using a spell that is clocking them from all their sensors. All of Iron Man's sensors leads him to believe that it really is empty.
The next morning at the Rand Corporation Headquarters, the Avengers barge in on a board meeting to talk to Danny Rand. Danny claims he has no idea what they want or what happened last night. He claims he was in the office then and perhaps it was a "copycat costume guy" like Daredevil had. Danny's lawyer is there asking what physical evidence do they have. Iron Man shows a digital recording that was taken by his armor. He tells them that his sensors are running at all times recording everything he comes into contact with. Danny's lawyer says that if Iron Man submits one file, he will subpoena all the files and the technology. That wouldn't be a good move for the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. They have no choice but to leave.
Dakota North arrives with a package for Danny from Matt Murdock. It is Ronin's costume along with the note from Maya. The "new" Avengers make plans to go to Japan just as Iron Man returns to Dr. Strange's. This time, he's brought Brother Voodoo. He's the only magician/mystic Iron Man could get to help them.
Returning to the present, in Japan, Luke Cage tries to appeal to Elektra as they fight the Hand. He tells her that the Hand can't win against them and there's no point in this fight. He says that they are criminals just like they are. He would like to talk...

Could they have fit any more characters in this issue?

I found this issue to be little underwhelming. Everything from the big New Avengers/Mighty Avengers fight, to what followed after that. I think the main problem is that the Echo/Elektra/Hand plot is much more interesting then the flashbacks to how the team got there. The main problem with the flashbacks is that we already know that the whole team doesn't get captured by anyone, because they all make it to Japan a few days later trying to save Echo.
The only thing that's interesting in the flashbacks, is to finally see who got dressed up as Ronin... and there's none of that in this issue. The Ronin mystery might be solved next issue, because I can't see Bendis drag these flashbacks for two more issues... they're suppose to be in Japan the next day.
I did get a kick out of how Doctor Strange got them out of a tight jam at the beginning of the issue. I also liked who Iron Man brings in after he realizes that Stephen Strange is with the New Avengers. The only slight problem this brings up is that the mystic arts are anything but clearly defined in the Marvel Universe. This lets writers do anything they feel like when it comes to these characters (Doc Strange, ect) and there's the potential of having a character that can get the team out of ANY situation that the writer isn't creative enough to solve. That could get boring real fast.
I really like this team however, and find they've kept them very different from the Mighty Avengers. Having Luke Cage as the leader surprisingly works very well. Although Bendis is known for "decompressed storytelling" where he gets lots of time to write his dialog and character interactions... we actually haven't gotten that much of it since the team shake up... and dare I say... I miss it. I'm not saying that I want him to start putting filler in the issues, but his strength is usually dialog and he doesn't get much of a chance to show that here.
Is the issue perfect? Well no. I was entertained however, and I'm looking forward to what Bendis can do with this team. I do find the story interesting so far, but I'm more interested in what comes next then what's going on right now.
