Cant believe we missed it!
Summary
Another flashback explaining how Clint Barton became the new Ronin, why the team is still together how they escaped detection from brother voodoo etc
In the present Cage stalls the hand by talking to them hoping for wolvie to heal up, things take a bad turn when Echo stabs Dr. Strange in the chest and joins with Elektra as the ninjas descend on our heroes. As the story ends Strange’s eyes flash open.
The Good
Dr. Strange has played a vital role as the big gun of this team and we again get some highlight on him. When Voodoo checks the house and cant find anything him and Stark realize the same thing IF strange is hiding they wont be able to find him because he IS the master knowing things in regards to magic that no other mage will/would.
It was also great to see Tony plead to his friends and question why they are still carrying on as a team and criminals when they could have better lives under the initiative. It was a nice human Tony who after losing Cap didn’t want to see his other friends end up as casualties of worse cause another Stanford incident.
The art continues to be a great fit and feel for the series after civil war. The dark fording visuals are a lovely contrast to the superhero costumes of the new avengers since the colors are dynamic and literally pop off the page.
A lovely Easter egg which I missed the first read through though stand out now in light of secret invasion. The purity spell which strange casts on the team when Clint joins up it takes Spiderwoman off guard completely. IF one is not pure THEN they are supposed to have a seizure BUT no one realizes that Spiderwoman almost keels over unlike the rest and long after everyone is talking she’s still pretty much clutched over in pain, she finds a chair to settle her seizure while her Skrull physiology
works through what just happened.…..truly great storytelling when panels like this were missed at the time by EVERYONE! Great work on the part of Bendis and Yu
The cover was also noteworthy with its use of Blacks, whites and reds it created a somber mood of dark foreboding for what lay within.
The Bad
JESUS H CHRIST! NOT ANOTHER FLASHBACK! Seriously Bendis its been more than 3 months he’s teased this confrontation and STILL MORE FLASHBACK! Not just flashback BUT 16 pages of it! And 5 pages of new story. No No New Avengers has become blatant filler! For shame
