    The New 52

Concept » The New 52 appears in 296 issues.

DC Comics' controversial 2011 reboot of its entire line of ongoing comic books following the universe altering event, Flashpoint. After Doomsday Clock, it was redefined as Earth-52.

Are we really satisfied with the new 52?

More or less. Several titles could do with some improvement, but there's still a fair amount of quality books in it.

I'm just happy that Red Hood finally got his own moment to shine. I think they should have stuck with the old Todd, but ehh.. its better than nothing. Also, Liefeld needs to stop.

I like the New 52. I think it's a cool concept. But what I don't like is how its the main stream universe. I like the old 52. So, overall, it's what said. It's okay, i guess.

As the New 52 progresses, I more and more realize that I want the old universe back.

I'm not saying that I hate this universe, but I dislike how weak the continuity is currently. And I'm somewhat upset because Pre-Relaunch had some great titles that were cancelled, and the titles that I enjoy the most of the relaunch could've happened in the old universe. Plus, there were some completely unnecessary costume changes for the worse.

I'm a somewhat similar boat, I was kinda into comics, but then new 52 really gave me the push I needed to get all the way in (Theres a sex joke in there somewhere)

There are some other titles I'd like to see in there, and I think there are some characters that could have done with a reboot that didn't get one, but yup I'm pretty satisfied

I'm satisfied overall...I had to drop a couple of titles, but the ones I have chosen to stick with are certainly worth it.

    These titles are magnificent

    - Batman

    - Green Lantern

    - Aquaman

    - Action Comics

    - The Flash

    - Nightwing

There are a few more titles that are also satisfactory:

    - JLA

    - Superman (after the change of creative team)

...and there are more comics that are meant to be really good but I haven't picked up:

    - Swamp Thing (I read issue 1 and was very impressed)

    - Animal Man

    - Wonder Woman

...I think that's enough comics to keep one man satisfied.

i am really very unimpressed with the New Justice league titles..:

the main justice league title for me is really too too slow in opinion (but for me that for me has always been a general criticism of DC comics that they spin everything out). i am personally not too sure off the characterization i personally have found the plots too mundane as in it has been done before..

to be fair justice league international i could not get past the first issue i had no interest in the characters and decided to skip it but then again i think allot of other people must have done if the book keeps getting canceled.

for JLA Dark i am very unimpressed that half the characters have changed and shifted half way into the series ... while i like the idea of DC having a premium magical team n the entire team felt forced together..... i also hate it when books are forced into crossover other titles especially 6 months into a new title..... so for that was a big no no for me

some series like the firestorm book is just bad :( in my opinion

now the stuff i am loving..... which are mostly lets try and sell some vertigo titles as not been vertigo titles to increase sales so loveing swampthing, animal man and resurrection man ( shame it is been canceled as i was loving the title even if the crossover with SS put me off ).., also i am finding Demon Knights very fresh title nice to see some hack and slash back into comics.... as for someone that actually has never been a fan of superman i am surprised that i have found the new action comics title so readable.

my other big criticism of the new 52 is that it was only a half measure with some books going back to day zero with no established continuity while others especially the green lantern books seems to have been mostly unaffected.

I was born and raised a Marvel reader with an exception for the Bat. I could never jump into titles like Superman or Flash or even Justice League. I mean I knew the characters overall story but just had no jumping on point. After living with Marvels endless Events over the past 5 years this was EXACTLY what I needed. My pull list from Marvel has been drawn down to anything written by Remender and I pull about 10 DC books a month. Worked for me, I love it I can't think of anything else better.

    Boom. I agree.

I think all of the titles I read (Batman, Nightwing, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Green Lantern, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Aquaman and Justice League) could have worked without a reboot, but just a revamp of the line. Or even just a reboot that didn't affect DC's history as much as this one has. I feel that a lot of interesting and worthwhile stories have been lost, in turn taking a lot away from certain characters i.e Nightwing not being on the Teen Titans, Tim Drake's relationship with Batman not being as strong, Superboy not being on Young Justice/Teen Titans, Wonder Woman's new origin, Martian Manhunter not being on The League. What about Wally West and Donna Troy?!

I don't think the quality of other titles makes up for the absolute loss of this continuity and history.

Still, this is coming from a person who read DC comics for a while before the reboot and was relatively versed with DC history.

    Overall, I definitely feel satisfied.

A lot of characters were painted into corners with the pre-Flashpoint continuity, we now have room to go in any direction with stories and with character development. I don't think that Wonder Woman, Aquaman, or the Flash have ever been better than they are right now, and I don't really see how you could tell these stories in the pre-Flashpoint continuity. A lot of secondary, more unknown characters to the general public are now able to integrate into the primary characters and really grow like Swamp Thing, Red Hood, and soon Constantine.

Obviously things aren't perfect. The Batman continuity is kind of insane, mainly because they should have killed off a Robin or two. Four Robins is hard to sell in five years, but if you had killed off even one of them, the fans would have flipped the hell out. Green Lantern is in the same boat. Some characterizations need work too. Is Superman too serious and a wanna-be Batman at times? Yeah. Are the Teen Titans a mess? Definitely. But that is a writer issue, not a continuity issue. Those things can change and get better.

As things start to fall into place and time passes by and we show DC how we feel about certain titles/writers, I'm very confident the New 52 will be a huge success.

Eh, I'm a bit split on it to be honest. I'm loving what they are doing with books like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Batman and Robin. But on the other hand, I hate it that they've made Cyborg a founding member of the league and yet they aren't doing anything interesting with him other than making him the league's living transportation vehicle. And don't even get me started on the Young Justice books, especially Static.
