This follows the final days of Ed Marks' Vietnam experience.  There are a few last moments of tension among combatants and some lighter moments as some replacements have found their way into the camp.  In reading this it sort of reminds me of the last episode of Band of Brothers, where it really becomes clear that beneath all else that friendships forged in this way are impossible to break.  Although Ed is going home there is a good presentation that his presence will be missed, if not as a solider then at least as a person.  Again the series seems to ooze a form of senseless monotony but here provides some resolution to that, if only for one man.
