A war of cosmic proportions is coming to Broxton; how will the Asgardians and humans react? Solid writing from Fraction with some Earth-shattering events.

The Good

Let's be clear about something: I love Broxton, Oklahoma.

I love how it's been added to the Thor mythos, and how it's provided some much-needed grounding for everyone's favourite gods. I love the townsfolk. I love their simple living. I love how they're fiercely protective, yet kind and caring.

It delights me that we get to see a lot of them in this issue, and the cliffhanger at the end really makes me want to pick up the rest of this series. I can't stop running through the potential conversations the two specific characters are going to have, and how one man might save the Earth.

Seeing the titanic conflict between two god-like beings in the Marvel Universe left me speechless. To see one of them damaged to that extent dropped my jaw. Seeing the reaction from their heralds just sealed the deal. Extremely strong storytelling from Matt Fraction.

Volstagg's "don't stop stabbing until you see the whites of their teeth" comment made me laugh out loud.

The Bad

Not much, to be honest. There seems to be a weird disconnect between the gods fighting above the citizens of Broxton and the latter's dealings with "regular" Asgardians; I feel like both areas could have used much more page time.

The Verdict

I think the reason I enjoy this book so much is that I'm suffering from crossover fatigue; there's been so much "Serpent!" this and "Hammer!" that, and I haven't enjoyed a "regular" Thor story in a long time. THis book satisfies that need, couples it with great art and adds some great writing to top it off. This book is aces.
