"I trust myself to do it"
Be sure to check out my review of The Magdalena #2.
100 Words Or Less
Patience has agreed to work with the Church to eliminate who they believe to be the Anti-Christ before armageddon happens. But Patience still has her reluctances about working with a Cardinal she does not trust. Will her hesitation get in the way of saving the world or is that path that has already been set upon that can't be undone? What does the boy have planned for The Magdalena?
So Then I Said...
There's a good dialog between Patience and Kristoff at the beginning of the issue where they both reason why they are working with the Church. This discussion was necessary, as it demonstrated that there is a greater good at stake, even though Patience didn't necessarily agree with the Church. A character can never have too much substance and Marz has done an admirable job writing up her character and making the reader empathize with her. As far as recon missions go, I felt it was a good idea for Patience and Kris to take their time and not go in guns blazing (although ironically, that is what Kris ends up doing). Not because it draws out the suspense but because of the material Marz writes as the issue builds up to the battle with the demon.
Patience is one of the better written characters of all the comics I've read. She isn't perfect and she knows it and the reader is taken in with her emotions and her actions.
I can't say enough good things about Blake's work. If I have to wait on a delayed release schedule for this series, at least it's worth the wait.
Bottom Line
Another great issue in what I feel is one of the better comics out there today. You have a great character with great writing and great art. I'm genuinely invested in the storyline and I can't wait to see what happens next. Worth It.
