As Tony Stark has been appointed the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Dum Dum Dugan expresses his concerns to Jack Kooning, the Secretary of Defense. As the Director, Stark has taken a more hands-on approach. On a terrorist/hostage situation in Australia, if it wasn't for Stark being there in his Iron Man armor, the mission would have failed and there would have been civilian casualties in the thousands. Stark has also done away with the officers' club and redirected the funds to the enlisted men's mess-hall. Stark even instituted a day-care facility on the helicarrier (only when it's in port, of course). Expenses are down and morale is high. Stark has also been spending time with Maya Hensen. Maya was the one behind developing Extremis. There has also been a surge in terrorist activities that may have something to do with Karim Najeeb.

In the end, it's revealed that Dugan has given the Secretary of Defense his letter of resignation. Kooning refuses his resignation stating that S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark need him. Kooning also wants a man "on the inside" that he can trust.

Spoilers!!

Flying above Washington D.C. is a plane surrounded by members of the Initiative, who are on their way to Camp Hammond. Hardball looks out the plane at Justice and comments that Justice must know because he keeps looking at Cloud 9.

He continues by guessing that Justice can read minds, a feat most telekinetics can perform and he becomes angry with this idea. Turning to Komodo he says that even if Komodo does not care about Justice being in her mind in his own case, he has some secrets he would like to keep secret.

In shock he turns to see an attractive young black-haired woman at his side rather than the lizard creature he was expecting. He stares at her as she yawns and wakes up, in horror she looks at her human hands. Immediately a transformation takes place and she turns on Hardball unleashing her fury, “HARDBALL! What did you see?!”

Komodo freaks out and Hardball tries to defend himself from the lizard-like enraged female. An enraged Gauntlet, followed by Pym, runs to the “rescue” of Hardball shouting at Komodo to restrain herself. Gauntlet’s right arm wraps around Komodo and with it he rips her out of her seat demanding answers.

She says that he saw her when she was powered down and knows her secret identity, Pym questions Hardball on this. He says that its just some girl, nobody that he knew…Hardball smiles and then says to a relieved Komodo, “Hey, Komodo…nice to finally meet you.”

Overview

Join War Machine and the Gauntlet as they lead the Initiative's fresh faced recruits and a division of Marvel's finest fliers against the forces of Hydra. All this and a pivotal moment in the life of Yellowjacket.

(Spoilers)

The trainees are running an obstacle course at Camp Hammond, in Stamford Cennecticut. Gauntlet orders them to run it without using their powers. Justice is bothered at his continued use of "The New Warriors" as an insult to what they should be. When talk among the trainees turns to what happens if you don't "make it" here, she starts thinking about MVP and how he's dead. She can't help thinking about him. Trauma is close by and his powers begin to take action over her fears. His body turns into the dead MVP, with half his head missing.

Hank runs to deal with Trauma and tells Justice to calm the trainees down but any talk about MVP is off limits. Justice is not happy with being left out of the loop over him, he still has no idea what happened. As Hank yells at Trauma over what he just did, he tries to explain that it was her fears that made him change. Then he begins to sense Hank's fears. He begins to change into a beaten Janet Van Dyne. Gauntlet and Justice pull them apart. Justice says he knows of some people that can help him get his powers under control.

In Hank's office, he searches for some anxiety pills that he used in the past. He decides to call Janet. She is out on a date and Hank hangs up before she can answer her phone.

In Baron Von Blitzschlag's lab, he comments to Gyrich and Hank about MVP's body. Despite his being the grandson of Abraham Esrkine, the creator the original Super-Soldier Serum, MVP had earned his perfection by putting in hard work. Analysis of his body shows that he didn't have any super powers. Hank is disgusted over Von Blitzschlag's talk of using the body's perfect genes to try to create more soldiers. He says he can't believe that not only is he working with Gyrich, but also a former Nazi. Von Blitzschlag turns things around by mentioning Hank's creation of Ultron and the Thor clone that killed Goliath. He tells Hank not to hate him because he's his biggest fan.

Just then a Priority One emergency alert goes off. All Initiative members are being called to action. Over a no-fly zone in Texas, a Hydra terror-carrier is headed toward the Prairie Chapel Ranch, also known as the "Western White House." Several groups are already on scene attempting to deal with it including the Texas Rangers with Living Lightning, Firebird, Texas Twister, Armadillo, Red Wolf, Phantom Rider, and Shooting Star.

At Camp Hammond, War Machine hands out weapons, pulse rifles, to members that can fly. Those that can't fly are given jet packs despite not having put in any time training with them. They pass throught the Negative Zone to get to the Texas jump gate. The plan is to build one for every state. Because of the affects between negative and positive space, they are to only be used in extreme emergencies.

With the Initiatives and other Avengers, they attempt to break through the shield the Hydra carrier has. Cloud 9 is surprised when she shoots down her first plane. She comments how it's not like in the cartoons. The pilot didn't jump out in a parachute when the plane was hit.

In the War Room at Camp Hammond, Trauma is brought to Gyrich. Trauma is ready to get kicked out. He says he knows this isn't where he belongs. Gyrich agrees. He says he should be out there with the others, defending his country.

Despite some injuries, they are finally able to break throught the shields. Hank jumps on the ship and begins to increase his size and mass. The ship's trajectory is changed. Hank begins to think that this could change the world's outlook on him. Perhaps now they won't just think of him as a wife beater. The ship explodes.

It turns out, Hank survived. He is honored at the White House, given the Presidential Medal of Freedom with military distinction. The trainees see that this may not be such a bad deal afterall.

At a level Trauma's never been to before by Gyrich. He asks if this is where he gets shot. Gyrich tells him that his powers are too important to just throw away since he can change shapes and read minds. They have called in a specialist. Henry McCoy, the Beast, is there to give Gyrich a big hello. Gyrich asks why the Xavier Institute sent him. He says he's there as a chaperone for the one they've requested. The mysterious female says she asked Beast to go with her for two reasons: one, she needed a bodyguard since she lost her powers after M-Day, and two, because he was dying to see him. We have to wait until next issue to see who Trauma's private tutor will be.

(May contain Spoilers)

Several weeks ago some of the denizens of the Negative Zone are in an uproar over the "invaders" coming to their land. As they rally to speak about it, a big ship lands (apparently crushing some of them) as workers prepare to get the prison built on schedule.

In the present, Black Panther and Storm look over the wreckage of the Wakandian Embassy after the Civil War. Storm asks if they will return to Wakanda now that they do not have a place to stay. Black Panther replies that they must deal with Washington D.C. and work with the U.N. He calls forth a ship that he had stored in the bay.

Maria Hill inside a S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier detects their ship and asks Tony Stark why she cannot shoot down his ship for being in their airspace. Stark mentions it's partially their fault that the embassy was destroyed. Maria says she'll give them 24 hours to leave. Stark reminds her that it's her job to know about ships being stashed around in various places. That shuts her up.

Some weeks ago, back in the Negative Zone, a battle is taking place between two aliens. As one kills the other, he proclaims, "Behold your champion!"

T'Challa has a video conference with his officials in Wakanda. He is being questioned when he will return and about his position in seeking help from the U.N. T'Challa reminds them that he is the King and can easily have them relieved of their postion. He mentions his blueprints for the new embassy with some modifications. It will take some time to construct so there is still the question as to where he, Storm, and their support staff will stay.

At the United Nations, Storm becomes frustrated in trying to deal with the foreign delegation. T'Challa says they have dinner plans that should get her mind off of things. The dinner is with Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four. They are planning on taking some time away from the team to work on their relationship. Reed offers the use of the Baxter Building for the embassy and their positions in the Fantastic Four to help keep an eye on the Thing and Human Torch. They quickly accept.

In Wakanda, Brother Voodoo is seeking a cannibal that devours the souls of innocents. He has the ability to take possession of their bodies. He is asked whether he will be willing to kill an innocent in order to stop the cannibal. At the palace, it seems the American battle ships are moving closer to Wakanda. In the room of T'Challa's sister, one of her men says that she needs to take charge since the King is half a world away. She protests that it is not the way the protocals work.

The newly formed Fantastic Four prepare to head out for an emergency that Black Panther discovered. As they leave, in the Negative Zone, a revolt is taking place at the prison. The guards are becoming overrun. The alien champion makes it through a portal and finds himself inside the Baxter Building.

(Contains Spoilers)

Black Panther, Storm, Thing and Human Torch return to the Baxter Building with two guests after an outer space adventure (See Fantastic Four 544-546) and everyone needs a rest. Their attempt at relaxation is quickly interrupted when they discover that a alien bug has crossed over from the Negative Zone. The team throws everything they have at it but the creatures hide seems indestructible and nothing works. Even when Black Panther uses some of Reed Richards' weapons, the creature is unharmed.

Meanwhile, in Wakanda, T'Challa's relatives (his sister and two cousins) discuss their leader's actions. One cousin thinks they should take over in Black Panther's absence but the others talk him out of it. Instead, he settles on sneaking onto American battleships during the night.

Back at the Baxter Building, Black Panther decides to use one of the magic frogs to teleport the alien away. To do so though, the team needs to get close to the bug so the frog will work. When T'Challa activates the frog, the bug and the team are teleported to parts unknown. The Human Torch is the first to figure out where they are, a Skrull planet. As soon as T'Challa says the magic words, "Could things get worse?" the power cosmic-wielding zombies of Marvel Zombies arrive overhead.

Overview

It’s slobberin’ time! The New Fantastic Four just made a wrong turn on the inter-dimensional super highway -- and they’ve landed in the middle of Zombie-verse! That’s right, True Believer, if the Black Panther, Storm, the Human Torch and the Thing can’t come up with the perfect escape plan, they’re going to be the next hors d'ouvres for Zombie Galacti intent on eating the entire universe! Spinning from the pages of the mega-hit MARVEL ZOMBIES!

AND the return of Lyja?

(Spoilers)

The Fantastic Four find themselves on a Skrull planet after using the Golden Frogs to escape the Negative Zone. They also see something approaching in the distance. It is the "Marvel" Zombies fresh from devouring Galactus. The Skrulls think they are being invaded. The giant bug creature from the Negative Zone came with the Fantastic Four and gives Ben a good pounding into the pavement.

At a Skrull Military Command post, the Skrulls have detected the human, but decayed figures approaching. They detect an energy signature similar to that of Galactus. Fearing the destruction of their planet, they start the Galactus Protocols.

Meanwhile, the Zombies are getting excited as they approach the "Skrull meat." Zombie-Luke Cage and Zombie-Iron Man continue to bicker as Stark tries acting as if he is of an upper class. Zombie-Spider-Man then slams into a force field as the others laugh at him.

Ben is still fighting with the bug creature and slams him with a huge boulder. T'Challa tells the team to gather closer so they can use the frogs to get out of there. They see a big Skrull fleet overhead and wonder what they could be after as it seems a bit much for just them.

Zombie-Wolverine slices through the force field using his claws and power cosmic. The Skrulls fire missles at them which are easily blasted away with the Zombies' power cosmic. Although now they are feeling a little drained and really want to eat.

The Fantastic Four are still fighting and see Zombie-Cage and Zombie-Iron Man just as they are about to teleport away. They just barely manage to escape getting stomped on by Zombie-Hulk. They end up in some sort of cavern and are attacked by, what appears to be, Super Skrulls. As Johnny slams into an invisible wall, he looks up only to be shocked to see Lyja, the Skrull that posed as Alicia Master and was married to him.

After defeating the Skrulls, they discover that they were an attempt to duplicate the Super Skrull. They were only able to get one power per Skrull rather than combine all into one. As Lyja holds Johnny's life in her invisible hands, Black Panther tells them that they will need their help to stop the Zombies up above. Ben also quietly asks if the Skrull holding Johnny is Lyja.

The Zombies have eaten the entire city. The Skrulls in the command post are ready to drop a bomb on them. The Fantastic Four are brought up here and Black Panther says they can try to defeat the threat if they all work together. Johnny asks the female Skrull if her name is Lyja. She is surprised that he knows her name but doesn't know who he is. Johnny reminds her that they met when she was sent to Earth to spy on them. Lyja responds that she's never been to Earth. When Johnny asks how would he know her name, she is just disgusted to even be near him. Johnny wonders if she's had a memory wipe. Ben wonders if perhaps they're in some kinds "cockamamie alternate universe."

Ben and Johnny now have an idea they want to bring to the others. Black Panther suggests traveling to Earth in order to figure out what the Zombies are. All of this is cut short when Zombie-Cage smashes through the building hungry for fresh meat.

Meet the New Serpent Squad, their leader -- Sin, the daughter of the Red Skull! And now as the world still reels from the tragic assassination of Captain America, the Skull and his minions begin to put their plans into motion, to deadly effect! And as the Falcon and Nick Fury hunt for the Winter Soldier, new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony Stark, gets a message from beyond the grave...

(CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS)

Captain America's surrender during the "Civil War" is on the news. The coverage is now focusing on the arraignment of Steve Rogers. The hearing is to take place in New York rather than in front of a military tribunal. It will also be broadcast live on all networks. A crowd of supporters and protesters has gathered outside the courthouse.

Agent 13, Sharon Carter is among the crowd. She is in contact with Nick Fury who seems to have a plan for something. Sharon recalls her first memories of Captain America and their time together as partners and lovers.

Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes is also among the crowd. He too recalls his first meeting of Cap and how you had no choice but to look up to him.

Steve Rogers finally arrives escourted by the US Marshalls. The crowd shouts outs questions and statements of support and disdain. One member even throws a tomatoe that hits him in the face asking, "Since when does Captain America surrender?!" As Rogers shakes off the mess, he notices a red dot appear on the marshall in front of him. Looking up, he finds the source in a building window across the street. Dr. Faustus and the Red Skull (in Aleksander Lukin's body notice that Rogers has found the sniper as they watch on television. The Skull insists that their plan stay in motion as they have done what they could to get the Rogers transferred to New York.

Cap yells, "Look out!" and pushes the marshall out of the way. The sniper's bullet shoots through his upper chest. The crowd panics. Sharon tries to get to Steve. Barnes also tries to work his way through the crowd. As Sharon is about to reach Steve, a gun is seen and three more shots, at close range, hit Captain America.

Weak from the shots, Rogers still asks Sharon to get the crowd to safety. Winter Soldier jumps through the window where the sniper shot came from. He is too late. Just then, Falcon flies into the building pinning Barnes against the wall thinking he was responsible. Winter Soldier quickly convinces him otherwise. Fury is able to track where the sniper went, a news copter has swooped down to pick him up. Barnes asks Falcon to carry him out as Steve Rogers is taken by an ambulence.

In the copther, Tombstone sees that they are being followed. Barnes shoots at them which causes the copter to go down. Tombstone simply jumps out towards Falcon and Winter Soldier as gravity carries them down. Barnes beats Tombstone down as Sin, the Red Skull's daughter observes. She calls her father and he tells her to move on to the next part of the plan. She is seen entering the nearby hospital dressed as a nurse.

Falcon tells Barnes to leave before S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives, leaving Tombstone with them. As S.H.I.E.L.D. soldier arrive and order Falcon to stand down, he does so willingly to go to Steve's side. As the ambulence arrives at the hospital, the news announces that Steve Rogers has been pronounced dead on arrival. Sharon and Falcon can be seen sitting in a waiting room.

Later Sharon goes to the restroom to splash some water on her face. At that moment, Sin walks in telling her the doctor wanted her to tell Sharon something. Dr. Faustus wanted her to tell her to "remember." Sharon's eyes roll back as she goes back to when the sniper bullet was fired. She sees herself working throught the crowd to get to Steve's side. Then she sees herself hold a gun up to Steve's gut and fire three times. She crumbles to the floor in tears over what she has done.

On a hospital bed, covered in a bloody sheet, the lifeless body of Captain America is lying there.

Overview

Part 3 of the senses-shattering "Death of a Dream" storyline continues the follow-up to Cap's side of the story from Civil War that you can only find here in Captain America -- and all we can tell you right now is, nothing is what it seems! Not even this cover!

(Spoilers)

Tony Stark finds himself at a press conference yet again informing reporters that there will be no more men to carry the costume, shield, and burden of Captain America. It was also recently announced that Captain America's Shield as well as his uniform would be made a part of a Permanent Captain America Exhibit at the National History Museum. The Winter Soldier plans to visit this exhibit.

Despite the tight security of the event, the Winter Soldier remains anonymous thanks to a jamming device for metal detectors and a false image array for X-Ray machines--both courtesy of Nick Fury. There are armed guards in the exhibit and only a small handful of people are allowed to visit the exhibit at one time. Forced to take a good look once again at the past, this former Captain America sidekick realizes that the shield on display is not Cap's shield. This makes sense because despite all of the precautions taken by the Museum, someone of the Winter Soldier's caliber can see a number of ways to enter the room undetected to take it. He comes to the conclusion that since Stark still holds the shield he is lying about not letting anyone be Captain America again. The Winter Soldier decides that he needs to make sure that no one takes up Cap's duties.

Meanwhile, Sharon Carter is dealing with her own demons concerning her involvement in Cap's death. She can still hear Faustus' voice in her head and see his image when she looks in the mirror-taunting her about being forced to kill Cap. Sitting in her bathroom with a gun she contemplates ending all of the pain permanently when Cap's former partner the Falcon shows up. Sam informs Sharon that Fury discovered Bucky's intention of both stealing Captain America's shield from S.H.I.E.L.D., and the possibility of killing Stark as well. The pair suit up and set off to deal with the Winter Soldier.

At a local SHIELD storage facility Bucky has already put a plan in place to steal the shield back. He sent a re-programmed LMD of Nick Fury into the storage facility to make it look like someone was attempting to steal the shield. Knowing the LMD would be stopped quickly, he programs it to also delete its own programming after being caught.

Just as Bucky suspected SHIELD sends four armored cars out of the facility, supposedly three as a diversion and one housing the actual shield. He waits longer to see one of SHIELD's flying cars exiting the building--the real location of the shield. Bringing down the car he finds that the Black Widow was the agent that Stark entrusted with the shield's care. Bucky finds little trouble in defeating the Black Widow. She is good, but he is better--and he was the one that trained her. Picking up the shield and leaving he is watched by Sharon and Sam who decide that they needed to follow him.

Battered and nursing a concussion Natasha informs Stark of why she believes Bucky took the shield: because he simply does not trust Stark with it. She also tells him that knowing Bucky as she does, she believes that he intends to kill murder him.

(Spoilers)

Sharon and the Contessa are walking to the wake for Steve Rogers and Sharon tells her of her encounter with Tony Stark five days ago. She was standing outside of where Steve's body was being kept. She was enraged that Stark secretly took the body from the hospital. He said they had to because he was the only perfect Super Soldier specimen in the world. When Stark allows her to enter, she sees the horror of what is left of his body. Apparently when he died, the Super-Soldier serum reversed its effects. He is now a withered old man with huge bullet wounds. Crying, Sharon says, "What did I do...?" Stark barely heard her and asks her what she said. She turns around and asks what did he do to Steve. He starts to defend himself saying that seeing Steve like that is killing him. Sharon slaps him for saying that and quits.

The Wake

Sharon sees Falcon and they talk briefly. Other heroes are there including the Thing, Carol Danvers, Simon Williams, and Dum Dum Dugan. She runs into Rick Jones who asks her if she knew that Steve really did love her. She says yeah. She excuses herself to the ladies' room. She hears Sin's words, "Doctor Faustus says remember." She looks at her hands and continues to cry. Falcon also excuses himself and flies off.

The Other Side

The Red Skull watches the news reports with his daughter, Sin. He still has more to his evil plan. Dr. Faustus wants to have another session with him since the Skull is "sharing his mind" with another man. The Red Skull asks Arnin Zola if he's figured out how Dr. Doom's device works. Zola believes he can crack it and reverse engineer it given time. They will be able to have access to time.

The Secret Wake

The New Avengers hold their own wake to honor Steve since they are unable to attend the actual one. Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Patriot, Ronin, Spider-Woman, Night Nurse, Jessica Jones (with their baby), Iron Fist, and Kate Bishop are joined by Falcon. Cage has words with Falcon over his being registered now. Falcon says he didn't want Steve to be buried alone. He told Stark to give him Harlem to watch over and to leave him alone. Spider-Man tells them that he's watched the footage over and over trying to figure things out. He tells them how Steve pushed the officer out of the way and took the bullet. He didn't give up at the end. He was a hero as he died. They raise a toast but Falcon is called away.

How It Begins

Bucky, the Winter Soldier sits drinking at a bar. The news is on and mention of Captain America continues to run. He can't believe that for the past year he couldn't face him and now he's gone. When the bartender mentions that it's a tragedy, another drinker says it's a cover-up and Cap is not dead. Another customer says the only tragedy is the fact that they're burrying him at Arlington, which is supposed to be for heroes, not traitors.

Bucky's hand smashes the mug he was holding. He walks up to the man and tells him to say it again. He goes on about how Cap turned on his own people and dishonored his uniform. Bucky loses it and begins fighting everyone in the bar. When everyone is lying on the ground, he thinks how Cap would be ashamed of his actions. Realizing this makes him miss Steve even more. Falcon arrives. He tells Bucky he needs to get out of there before the police arrive. Bucky insists on paying his tab first. As he walks out, he knows what he has to do next. He has to kill Tony Stark!

Overview

The best-selling Captain America series continues its most shocking story ever!

It's the Winter Soldier versus everyone in this senses-shattering conclusion to the first arc of the EPIC "Death of Captain America" storyline. Winter Soldier versus Crossbones - the man who sniped Cap! Winter Soldier versus S.H.I.E.L.D. and Tony Stark's hand-picked Mighty Avengers operative! Winter Soldier versus the Red Skull! And finally - the Winter Soldier versus himself! You'll have to be there to see it!

By Brubaker, Epting, and Perkins.

(Spoilers)

Tony Stark is trying to figure out how they were infiltrated. It's figured out that the agents that dropped off the grid have had psychiatric evaluations with Dr. Benjamin (Dr. Faustus in disguise). There is a report of something in the basement when Tony gets a call from the Black Widow. It turns out that Dr. Benjamin is dead in a freezer. He appears to have been there for some time.

In Aleksander Lukin's office, the Winter Soldier is taking pounches from Crossbones and Sin. Lukin puts on the Red Skull mask as the Skull finally reveals himself. He asks Bucky if the Lukin he knew would willingly work with the Red Skull. Getting his bearings, the Winter Soldier quickly puts down Crossbones and Sin. He walks up to Crossbones saying, "You...you shot my friend." He grabs him by the throat and lifts him up. Crossbones is beginning to choke as the Red Skull comments how Steve Rogers wouldn't resort to murder as an option in dealing with an enemy. Bucky tosses Crossbones aside yelling at the Skull to stop using his name. Bucky pins him against the window and the Skull utters a single word, "Sputnik." It turns out it was a one-time shutdown code from his old Soviet handlers. Crossbones ask why he waited so long before he used it. He could have killed him. Red Skull says he wanted to see if Bucky would kill Crossbones.

In the Falcon's apartment, Sam prepares to prep his spare costume after his current one got burned. Black Widow casually enters through the window. She tells Sam that she's looking for the Winter Soldier just like he and Sharon (Agent 13) are.

At Sharon's apartment, she is in the bathroom in tears. She wants to believe that this must be another trick of the Skull's. Looking down at a pregnancy test, it reveals that she is, in fact, pregnant.

Tony looks at an old picture of Cap, Bucky, Nick Fury, and Dum Dum. He holds the letter delivered to him from Steve. He curses Steve for making him want a drink. He calls up images from when Steve was shot.

Elsewhere, Winer Soldier is being tortured by Faust. Images of Cap getting shot are all around on screens. Faust is happy that he's finally come to. He says that he's heard so much about him over the years that he feels as if he already knows him.

Sharon sits in the shower playing over Steve's last few days. Recalling his last words, she realizes that Steve must have known that it was her that shot him.

Tony is frustrated that there were over one hundred cameras and news crews yet no one was able to get a clear view of whoever shot Steve. Satellite footage had been diverted and Tony figures Nick must have been behind it. He figures Nick must have had some plan to free Steve and didn't want anyone to see it put in motion. He thinks about Sharon being right by Steve and the fact that she didn't see anything either. Suddenly, he calls down to get a list of all agents that had been evaluated by "Dr. Benjamin."

Sharon dresses to go out. Grabbing her gun, she looks in the mirror. Standing next to her is the image of Dr. Faustus. He "tells" her it's time to work again. The Falcon and Black Widow arrive at her apartment. Sam calls out to her. Sharon says she'll be right out as she grabs something out of her safe.

Tony Stark finds Sharon's name on the list of patients. He kicks himself for not having pieced this together before. He dresses in his armor knowing that they now have a big problem. He calls the Black Widow. She begins to tell him that she's with Sam and Sharon. Tony tells here there's been a change in plans. She has to bring in Sharon. Before he can continue, Sharon walks out in a trance. She then shoots the two of them with some sort of energy gun.

As Tony calls his agents to Black Widow's position, Steve's note can be seen. The last lines ask Tony to help Bucky through his time of frustration and anger. He doesn't want Bucky to slip out of his new life. His second request is that Tony not let "Captain America" die. He says it is bigger than just him. Tony can't let the legacy die with him.

Reed Richards does a preliminary interview with Michael Pointer, aka The Collective. He is soon questioned by another man who asks if Xorn is in his body. He shows him the footage from when the Collective destroyed Alpha Flight. Pointer pleads to stop seeing the footage. He says that because he is a mutant that can absorb others' powers, he couldn't help absorbing Xorn and all the powers. He says he would do anything to make things right. That is just what the man wanted to hear. He then reveals himself to be Walter Langkowski, Sasquatch, the only survivor of Alpha Flight. Reed Richards designed a suit to control his powers. After he does some training, he will honor the memories of those he killed by becoming a member of Canada's new super hero team, Omega Flight.

Iron Man switches his cameras to watch the Thunderbolts take brutally bring in an unregistered hero named Hurricane. He never stands a chance.

Iron Man arrives at Stark Tower. He finds Ms. Marvel. She tells Stark about a run in she had with Spider-Woman. Ms. Marvel gave an assist when Spider-Woman was fighting the Grey Gargoyle. She tried talking Jessica into joining their side. Jessica asked how she could be with Stark since Captain America is dead because of her. Ms. Marvel tells her that he is not dead. She says that he is tucked away on the raft and that they are trying to save him as they speak. She also tells Jessica that Nick Fury could come work with them too. Jessica doesn't buy it. She knows Stark hates her. Carol allows her to leave. Stark is not happy with that decision. He says he'll have her arrested for treason if she shows up again.

Stark then talks to Jarvis. Jarvis tells him that both he and the world need the Avengers. With all the super heroes at his disposal, he has the opportunity to hand pick his team. Stark looks over his files to see who would be best suited.

Ben and Johnny are told by Reed and Sue that Storm and Black Panther will be taking their spots on the team as they work on their marriage and take a second honeymoon. The Wakandian Embassy was detroyed when Storm was fighting the clone of Thor (co-created by Reed). Storm and Black Panther need a place to stay. In the wreckage of the embassy, Reed and T'Challa discovered bombs that were to go off a few hours after they were accidentally discovered. Tony Stark was on scene to assure that S.H.I.E.L.D. would use its resources to discover who placed the bombs there. Stark was hoping Reed would try to talk T'Challa to head back to Wakanda but Reed says he doesn't agree with that decision.

The Fantastic Four hold a press conference announcing the temporary departure of Reed and Sue. Black Panther is asked if they are officially joining the team and he responds that the Fantastic Four are a family rather than a team and that there is no official roster. The Wakandian people begin moving their possessions into the Baxter Building.

The former Deathlok, Michael Collins, arrives wishing to speak to T'Challa. Apparently he's been cured and is back to being a human. There is still something going on with his body but T'Challa is cut off before he can voice it. At the gravesite of a young hero known as Gravity, there appears to have been a black hole that has distorted the site. Ben says it's too bad the Watcher isn't there so they could ask him what happened. Storm suggests that they pay him a visit.

On the moon, they arrive at Uatu's place. The Watcher appears but remains silent. Storm arrives after fetching the Ultimate Nullifier from Johnny's directions. Threats are not necessary. Uatu agrees to share information by allowing them to enter the Cyclopedia Universum. Ben is able to quickly get the information as to what happened to Gravity. It seems Gravity's body has been taken by the cosmic being Epoch.

In the aftermath of Civil War comes RECONSTRUCTION, the beginning of a stunning new era of fantastic adventure. The team has been rocked to its foundations by the controversial events of the last several months. Now Reed and Sue have announced their plans to take some time off to work out their marital problems, leaving Ben and Johnny to hold the fort. But they won't be doing it shorthanded. Two new members join the team, Black Panther and Storm. Epoch says that the events that occurred are beyond their comprehension. The Fantastic Four make to land on her but she begs them to leave. She says their energies she's releasing are detectible and she fears being discovered by the Herald. With that, the Silver Surfer arrives.

(Contains Spoilers)

Reed is flying a spaceship to take Sue on their second honeymoon. It turns out he has plans to take her to Titan to the winter home of Mentor.

Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four are still close to Epoch as the Silver Surfer says he is going to bring Galactus to feed off of her. Black Panther has prepared life support bracelets for the team in case they lose atmospere. He gives Johnny extra so that he will be able to flame on if necessary. He warns the rest of the Fantastic Four and Michael Collins (still on board the ship) not to try anything. He says he will give them a little time to complete their mission before summoning Galactus to feed on Epoch.

Ben questions what the Surfer is doing back with "that piece o'crap" Galactus and the Surfer tries to explain. He says that good and evil are complex concepts and sometimes to save lives who have to do bad things. Ben says he's not going to let Galactus eat Epoch. Black Panther tires telling him that Epoch and Galactus are not their business. He doesn't see how they would have the powere to have a say in the matter.

Now Ben and T'Challa argue. Storm pulls him aside saying that they are not going to walk away without getting involved. She also says not to make her embarrass him in front of his friends. So the Panther says that Epoch is under their protection.

Ben goes outside the ship to try to talk to the Surfer. He asks the Surfer to let Epoch be and they can go get some burgers. Silver Surfer says he understands what Ben is trying to do but he will not be distracted from his mission. He suggests that Ben go back inside his "primitive conveyance" and get out of there because that whole region will be consumed and transformed into energy for Galactus to consume. Johnny smacks himself in the face because he knows that that remark will make Ben fight the Surfer.

As he goes through the motions of the dance they've done before, Ben realizes that this stall tactic won't work this time. In the past, the fight would go on until Reed thought of a way to outsmart the Surfer. Johnny comes to Ben's rescue and carries him away. Suddenly the Silver Surfer feels the vacuum of space getting thicker. Thinking Epoch is up to something, he soon discovers that it is Storm. She tells him that she's gathered stray hydrogen atoms and brought them here. The Silver Surfer says she is foolish if she thinks he will be outmatched by a human. Storm blasts him with lightning.

As the fight goes on, Epoch says she has to cut things short. She brings out Gravity. He has been reborn. Confused to where he is and what has happened, Epoch tells him that he has been choesen for the greatest honor the universe has to bestow. She says that since Quasar has met his end, the universe needs a new protector.

The Silver Surfer is enraged. He scoffs at the attack saying that he flies throught the heart of suns. The Human Torch blasts him with fire knowing that it most likely will have little effect. As the Surfer flies back, his board keeps going and smacks Johnny in the head. As the Surfer summons his board back, the Black Panther jumps on it. He surprises the Surfer and grabs him from behind. He says based on his physique, he will not be able to break free of the hold he has on him despite his strength.

Black Panther tells the Silver Surfer that he wants to talk things over. They want to know what happened to the body of Gravity that was taken from his grave. Then the Panther is blasted from behind by another of Galactus' heralds, Stardust. The Thing is encased in a bubble and bounced away. Silver Surfer tells Stardust to stop. He says despite the fact that they are fighting, Ben is still his friend and now he is curious as to what the Black Panther has to say. Galactus arrives and the Silver Surfer says they can tell him themselves. They have thirty-minutes to complete their business.

Black Panther tells Michael to bring the ship down. Johnny asks what the plan is. Panther says to do whatever they want and leaves. The FF are in shock. Storm says it was the most strategically sound move. The Thing says Panther may be a coward but he's The Thing. He prepares to take on the Surfer again. They are interrupted as the new Protector of the Universe is ready to step in.

Overview

The Fantastic Four is helpless against the cosmic power of Epoch. The Black Panther goes one-on-one vs. The Silver Surfer. And oh, yeah, there's a new Protector of the Universe and he's got a bone to pick with Galactus.

(Spoilers)

T'Challa and Michael Collins travel back to Earth. Michael is not pleased with the thought that they just abandoned the others. T'Challa calls one of his men and tells him to prepare his Galactus Contingency Plan. He also tells him to prepare the "frogs."

The newly reborn Gravity prepares to take on the Silver Surfer and Stardust. The Fantastic Four are surprised since they came out there to retrieve his dead body that was taken from his grave on Earth. Gravity tells them that he has become the Protector of the Universe and must defend Epoch. When Gravity makes a move towards Galactus, Stardust blasts him into a asteroid. Thinking he's been killed, Storm unleashes her fury on Stardust. Thing starts digging through rock and finds Gravity unhurt. They are both surprised. Storm tells the Surfer to move out of her way and finds that Stardust is back, right behind her.

On Titan, Reed and Sue take a stroll on the moon. Sue begins to ask what the rest of his plan is. She knows that he has to have calculated the long term solution after siding with Iron Man. He says there may be a way to guide things for a better world. Sue accuses Reed of sounding like Dr. Doom. Reed promises her that there will be no more secrets. Their moment is interrupted due to an "unexplained interplanetary phenomena" and the house has been programmed to inform the residents there. An object has entered the solar system and appears to be headed to Earth. Sue allows Reed to investigate but says she's going with.

On Earth at the Wakandan Palace, a crate marked "Plan G" is waiting for T'Challa and Michael. T'Challa asks for the frogs. His man advises him against using the frogs but T'Challa insists. They are King Solomon's Frogs. One controls space and the other time. Placing one on the...back of the other will take them back to the others almost instantaneously. T'Challa puts on a device and attacks the Silver Surfer. When the Surfer blasts at the Black Panther, he finds that he cannot stop. The armor T'Challa is wearing is based on the technology that Dr. Doom used to steal the Surfer's Power Cosmic. He then gives the armor to Johnny since he has had experience wielding the power before. Johnny is to take on Stardust while T'Challa will handle the Surfer with his fists. Johnny is able to keep Stardust at bay while Gravity creates two even horizons on either side of her.

Epoch is moments away from being drained by Galactus. Gravity hits him with a blast that manages to actually hurt Galactus and gets his attention. The rest arrive and order Galactus to release Epoch. Gravity says he could crush Galactus like a tin can but it's not in his nature to do so. He begins blasting Galactus, hitting him with full energy. Michael is concerned that Gravity is killing Galactus but Gravity tells him he's actually feeding him. It is enough to restore Galactus to full strength. He grants him a boon. Gravity asks that Galactus won't harm Epoch. Galactus says she will not be harmed. When Epoch thanks her new Protector of the Universe, Gravity tells her that his stunt drained all the power she gave him. Epoch says it can be restored but he declines. He wants to go back to Earth. She allows him saying she can find another Protector.

The Fantastic Four, Michael, and Gravity to Earth via the frogs. Gravity decides to fly back home to see his parents.

Wizard reveals that he was able to revive Klaw with a sound bite that he downloaded online. The Thing is more resilient than Klaw expected, especially since the Black Panther handed him vibranium ear plugs with block Klawn's power, and he punches him so strongly that the Klaw's body dissipates.
