The Hobbit Official Trailer (HD)
This is bad.
This makes a great trailer for another LoTR movie, not a Hobbit movie.
The tone is all wrong and it just feels wrong to me.
I am the opposite of optimistic.
Why's Thorin Oakenshield look young? Seriously, he was the oldest of the 12 dwarves on this mission! Hmmm, I do like the tone they took with this though. Not bad. Its been a long time coming, and I just am ready for this now.
I read twenty pages of the Hobbit and then put it down. I found the One Ring trilogy much better.

The first chapter, in particular, is incredibly boring. But if you can trudge your way through chapter 1, it gets much better.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I loved reading the Hobbit and personally can't wait for this 8D

To be honest, I think this movie looks like it could be really good, but we'll have to approach it with the same mindset that we had to approach X-Men First Class and the Batman series.
If we expect the story and the characters to be exactly the same as what we know, we'll be sorely disappointed. The Batman movies are great, but they're very little like the comic version of Batman. There's no real detective work in them. There were dozens of things that could have made me hate X-Men First Class if I had given in to my inner fanboy.
But, all of those movies turned out great to watch as long as we kept in mind that they weren't supposed to be exactly like the originals. New writers and new medium of storytelling means new story.
That's basically what I think about this movie. "Peter Jackson + film" simply can not create the same product as "JRR Tolkien + book." It's a different storyteller and a different medium through which to tell it. If I watch this movie expecting it to be just like the book was, I'll hate it. If I watch this movie with the understanding it can't and won't be just like the book and is instead it's own entity, I think it will be a very good movie.
@RainEffect said:Oh yeah, trust me, I almost gave up on the Two Towers. I blame my Thriller genre upbringing. The Bourne trilogy, for example (by Ludlum) is just incredible. It literally is one of the books you cannot put down.I read twenty pages of the Hobbit and then put it down. If it is anything like the Lord of the Rings I will absolutely love this. I'm a fan of that old animated movie that came out sometime before I was born, so I've got some real high hopes for this pict-OH I FORGOT ABOUT SMAUG. This is going to be in two parts? Part two is going to be freaking epic.
@buttersdaman000Yeah I was lolWait....i thought the actor who played Gandalf died....It's possible you're thinking of the first actor who played Dumbledore.
Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old.
The pines were roaring on the heights,
The wind was moaning in the night,
The fire was red, it flaming spread,
The trees like torches blazed with light.

how come there aren't any black folks in movies like this ?I presume it's because it's set in middle earth, which is the "middle" continent and an analogy of Europe, the "black folks" where easterlings and southrons and came from well the east and south

From what I can ascertain, it's an homage/tweaked reciting of an old Tolkien poem. We'll know whether or not the dwarves sing the entire poem once the final product is released.@Illuminatus said:

Well, that's not exactly right. It's called Middle Earth because The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were inspired by Norse Mythology and in Norse Mythology there are several planes of existence and humanity and earth are in the middle of all the planes, in the realm called "Midgard", which translates into "Middle Earth". So Tolkein just took that name and made it the name for their universe.
The reason why there aren't any black characters in these stories is because it's based on Norse Mythology and in medieval Europe, there were few if any black people in that region. Putting them in wouldn't necessarily be wrong. But it's kind of like insisting that there should be eskimos in a Japanese samurai film.
Nope, although it does come from Midgard, Middle-Earth just refers to the one continent, to the west of Middle-Earth was Aman and to the east was the Dark Lands and Land of the Sun, south was Rhun. The name of the world in which The Hobbit, Lord of The Rings and The Similarion takes place is called Arda and the universe in which it all exists was called Ea.@spiderbat87 said:
