The first part of a three part adaptation of the books of Douglas Adams. Out in the uncharted backwater of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy a man lies in front of a bulldozer. The council want to build a bypass through his home. He'd really rather they didn't. That man is Arthur Dent and when he's saved from the destruction of his whole planet by a strange alien from somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, he's catapulted into the bizarre and often-times petrifying galaxy.

With his towel firmly by his side and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy clutched desperately in his hands, he has to face a reality that's so totally alien to him. The only thing he can be sure of is the book, its message of "Don't Panic" printed in large, friendly letters on its cover is the only thing that's keeping him sane.
