    Flashpoint is Almost Upon Us

Now that Barry Allen is back in town, investigating crime scenes just got a whole lot cooler. And Francis Manapul is back on art duties!

    The Good

We all know some crazy stuff is coming with Flashpoint. The tease of The Road To Flashpoint on the cover almost makes me a little nervous. Not nervous in a bad way but nervous because you know things are going to get crazy. Reading this issue I felt like some bad things were headed in Barry's direction.

While we all want to see Barry Allen as the Flash going on his superhero adventures, there is something really fascinating about the scenes during his day job. Barry gets called in when a costumed body is found. We see little bits of the investigative process and it gives us another look at his character. We also see some of the other Flash Family. I've been wondering what Wally West has been up to and we at least get a cameo with him, Bart and the others.

Geoff Johns is at his usual top form but you'll immediately notice the return of Francis Manapul on art. And of course if you saw the preview with the speedster guy on the fast moving motorcycle, you'll want to see what his deal is.

    The Bad

    Nothing.

    The Verdict

The Flash is always a joy to read. Even though I spent most of my comic book reading career reading about Wally West as the Flash, it's refreshing to see Barry Allen back in costume and back in comics. The dual aspects of his character, being a superhero and a crime scene investigator, adds a neat little twist to the comic and opens the series up to different types of Flash stories. Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul always bring about a different type of reading experience that is a treat. Even though it's set in the DC Universe, it has a feel to it that makes it stand out from the other superhero books.

With the finish line of Flashpoint in sight, Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul get back on track and resume Barry Allen's story in a stronger issue than any in their first arc.  Johns is developing some strong stuff with Barry Allen, the crime scene investigator. This issue shows an emerging rift between him and the detectives whose cases he is complicating with his work on cold cases. It is making for a potentially interesting dynamic at Barry's workplace. Honestly, Barry in his day job really is...
