Geoff J + Francis M= 100% pure Columbian awesome
Geoff Johns is possibly my favorite writer and Francis Manapul is one of my favorite artists and these two together have created one of the best comics currently out. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've liked Blackest Night and Brightest Day. Last times I was into Flash comics Barry was still dead and so was Kid Flash, all the Rogues were alive, Superman was going through that Red and Blue Superman phase and Wally West the top speedster. I really like the story being told here, it's like an action packed murder mystery. I love how each issue ends like a "Quantum Leap" episode (if you don't know what that is...for shame...). Along with the murder mystery story and such, Johns actually has me not tolerating Barry but kind of liking him. Like I said I'm new to the Flash "world" so I'm a little confused with the Renegades working with(?) or for (?) Reverse-Flash, I thought he was quite the thorn in each Flash's side but other than this and a few other questions about past Flash stories there is practically nothing to gripe about. But I really like the Renegades (at least Commander Cold and Firestorm(?) are snappier dressers than their doppelgangers) they're the reverse Rogues (who for bad guys, with a very odd and twisted moral code, I've always liked)...sort of. These first few issues have been awesome, Johns scripts capture how capable Barry is with his powers and how they're more than only running fast (issues 1&2 he dismantles a car mid crash and rebuilds a building in moments after reading a book). What makes Johns's writing astounding is how Francis Manapul brings it to life. This book should be read by everyone. Other than writing Barry/Flash so well, he makes the Rogues more than one dimensional crooks but not enough we favor them because they are killers and thieves (with a weird moral code which makes them interesting). Along with the humanizing the Rogues and giving them some depth he is still adding to the mystery of Brightest Day via Captain Boomerang, his little vision has me curious but his task "throw the boomerang..." sounds kind of easy for a low life, d-bag like him but that's just my opinion. This issue really threw a twist at me with the Top and the big piece of glass, "In Case The Flash Returns Break Glass," I thought that was pretty funny. Read this issue people and if you haven't read the 1-4, you should be ashamed and read them. The arc is awesome it's going where I did not expect it, the art is awesome and Johns is pretty good at writing Barry.
