Gardner Fox set the Flash, DC, and superhero comics in general, on a science fiction tangent with his early work on The Flash, unfortunately many of his followers (and even he himself on occasion) reduced science fiction to absurd fantasy. This issue, with the 'Breakaway Bandit' is a perfect example - it's not just the Breakaway Bandit's powers that you can see on the cover - being able to separate parts of his body while maintaining control over them (and a kind of telekinetic ability to have them defy gravity), it's the lame scientific explanation they try to give for it.

But it doesn't stop there, 'Breakaway Bandit' has electric shock hair, and Flash defeats him by braiding said hair (which is naturally in a mohawk). And there's tons of other stuff to hate in here. The 'Breakaway Bandit' has really silly and ridiculously powerful weaponry, makes bad puns, speaks English despite being an alien, does stupid things like telling Flash his plans, explaining why things work (for the reader's benefit), and naively falling for the Flash's ploy to escape imprisonment by taking off his costume and convincing the 'Breakaway Bandit' that Flash teleported away leaving Barry Allen in his place.

As insipid as the plot of the main story is, the backup story is equally bad, with Flash gaining the various powers of members of the Justice League based on and experiment Professor Ivo is doing on JLA facsimiles in a basement lab. This one makes so little sense that you could almost take every page in between the first and last one, and cut them up, randomly reordering the panels and still get pretty much the same story.

Comics like this are why comics to this day are thought to be juvenile and unimportant.
