    Off to an average start.

If I'm being honest and comparing this with comics in general it's nothing spectacular and nothing beyond what I'd expect, but the fact of the matter is that with this first month of DCnU there has been so much that is just awful that this does get a bit higher rating just by being surrounded by all that trash. The book is average, but there isn't really anything to rage about or praise heavily so without the forthcoming points there isn't anything else much to say other than, once again this isn't an introduction book... which goes against that 3.5 rating I was thinking of giving it...

So let's go through this book and point out some things...

#1. Patty Spivot is revealed to be on a date with Barry and I'm ok with that to a degree because I like the patty character, but Iris is also in this book and when you put the two in the same book I start to hate Patty and Iris because we all know that Barry should be with Iris and it is set up that he will eventually go to her which means I hate Patty for being there unnecessarily from a creative standpoint and hate Iris from a personality stand point of taking Barry away from Patty...of course it could be that Patty leaves Barry or Barry cheats and in which case I hate one or both of those more and hate the situation all that more which makes me hate those 3 characters.

#2. This is a nit-pick... The line on the first page is Theoretically, not Theoretical. This is part of why editors exist. To catch these types of mistakes. The line the way it is makes no sense as if the energy theoretical then they wouldn't have a demo application cuz they don't know if it exists...if it's theoretically renewable then it means they have discovered it and think it is renewable but it may not be.

#3. The henshin(transformation) page... This is more about the costume... Look Barry is not a mad scientist that has a PhD in quantum physics or metallurgy or electronics. We can buy the suit from the ring only so far. When it becomes a self assembling suit of armor that expands from the ring you are taking away from the character in general. Also Barry doesn't get hit...why would he need armor?

#4. The proudly presents page... The following page i noticed some guys with damage to their gear and i was wondering if i missed something and surely enough I did... Having panels in the text like that is bad and most people will miss it. it's also annoying and makes it so it's hard to see the actions.

#5. Flash can "blow" the guy through a wall of a building but isn't smart enough to use that same ability to hover with the guy in mid air? And is stupid enough to not realize that going through the ground won't stop the velocity so he'd ultimately just being going the same speed and hitting with the same force...

Overall it's an ok read, with a decent ending, but any plus is negated by several missing attributes and or flubs...and like I said it would get a slightly above average score from me, but the fact it doesn't deliver on the launch book thing that get a demerit and thus it's just average at best.

After the events of Flashpoint, it is now to Barry Allen to hold the mantle of the Flash.  The tone of the series is set right away, returning the character to a depiction of the character not seen since probably the 1960s as the young and inexperienced bungles his way through life as Barry just as much as he speeds through it as the Flash.  In pushing Barry back in this direction it seems as though the creative team is looking to find a medium ground where Barry takes on some of the characteris...

A Flash and Splash debut. 0

I really enjoy when the artist is also writer.  Partly because the voice I think is clearer.  From Manapul's first Flash series with Geoff Johns we really saw a strong visual storytelling from Manapul and now without Johns, the story is so clear with Manapul's narrative.  We see some hand lettering blended into the art like a young Will Eisner.  We also see great panel layout, accompanied by great contrast of inking style and color choices.  This book is beautiful on the eyes.  This story ...
